While it happens for all companies, Section23 (Seraphim Digital?) is in desperate need of some Japanese pronunciation coaching. Been like that since the days of ADV.

Based on the premise alone, this seems like it's for me. I am always fascinated by any kind of anime that involves people grappling with death. Perhaps because the reason I got super-involved as an anime fan in January 2009 was that I was reeling from the shock of my stepmother's death and anime was a wonderful mental lifeline for me during a very difficult time.

I'm surprised to see Nancy doing voice work again. I haven't heard her since Azumanga Daioh and...actually, that's pretty much it. Kinda ironic that she's doing the squeaky voice here while Jessica's doing the solemn one.

Yeah, this one was quite forgettable. I would recommend Shigofumi instead which has more than a few similarities including multiple protagonists, the female lead from the land of the dead, and an overall similar tone. Coincidentally enough, Section 23 also licensed this one. Shigofumi probably could have benefited from being six episodes however.

Well you cant be susprised about that so its only a negative to those die hard pursuits. Even bleach opted to call their heroes Soul Reapers instead of Shinigami or death gods as translated.

Kinda doubt there is a need for any pronunciation coaching for Section 23.

However i have never heard of Seraphim Digital. Did they change their company name or it it a new company name like how from time its licensed under the section 23 banner but at other times some titles are under the Sentai Filmworks banner.

As far as I've seen the people that she "helps" only need her help because Momo has murdered a friend of that person. That's pretty messed up, it sounds like something a mentally deranged person would do.

Also, Momo grants her victims one final "wish" on the condition that if Momo grants it then her victims will scoot on to the hereafter without fuss, accepting their murder and giving Momo de facto forgiveness, which sounds to me like it is actually a convenience to Momo, causing me to again question her "kindness".

IMO Greg Ayres should have been Daniel. I'm confident that he would have thrown down a flag when he heard the "shini-GO-me" pronunciation.

Seraphim Digital is the name of the recording studio Sentai uses (and ADV used in the final years)

*EDIT*

Now they have a website Razz

Despite all the hate Steven Foster gets maybe one of the main reasons he's still around is because he brings in high paying projects from Japanese producers via personal connections/networking for Houston VAs that no other ADR Director would be able to get (Appleseed Ex-Machina, Halo Legends, Starship Troopers Invasion, Space Pirate Captain Harlock).

The dub is at its best in episode 3, where seasoned veterans Chris Patton and Brittney Karbowski take the lead roles

I may get some hate for saying this but I've never been impressed with any of Karbowski's work. I think her voice is naturally unfitting for anime. There's even an interview (Pani Poni Dash IIRC) where even she admits her voice is usually raspy and annoying.

I'm sure she's a nice girl and maybe that's why she gets a lot of work, but I don't think she's that great and most roles of hers would've been better off voiced by other VAs. I guess Theron is just a huge fanboy for her since his reviews constantly say nice things about her...

I'm only somewhat certain I saw part of this show years ago (and not all of it if I'm remember correctly), but isn't the concept here that Momo is part of the natural process of death rather than killing people per se? They die because they're mortal, not because Momo makes them die. The Grim Reaper in Western fiction is usually portrayed the same way (the Discworld books, for example).

Not sure where you're getting any of this from because it is absolutely not shown (or even hinted at) in the anime.

No, Shigofumi (which I did also think of while watching this) has a very different tone and a vastly harsher edge to it. In fact, I'd go as far as calling it a very ugly series in terms of content, and this one is nothing close to that.

Brittney gets a lot of work at least partly because she has a "typical teenager" quality to her voice. That makes her ill-suited to super-cutesy roles but well-suited to parts that are supposed to be just normal, unexaggerated teen girls.

HAHAHAHAHA! You cant be surprised that a large amount of the otaku community still hate Stephen Foster.

its kinda the same reason why people to this day still loathe 4kids (even though their finally six feet under ) and die hard otakus still hate Nelvana to this day for their destruction of card captor sakura.

though he was a genius for the Ghost Stories dub , people still hate the guy for ruining some pretty good series.

when it comes to individuals or companies that completely ruin a very popular series to the otaku community , they don't forget nor forgive which is why there are those that put Foster in the same level as Alfred H Kahnn ( I think that's his name )

Watch Shigofumi then. I really like you would like it.

OT: I'm going to watch it online first before deciding on buying it. It seems very similar to Shigofumi, which greatly surpassed all my expectations. I hope is at least as half as good as Shigofumi.

I loved Shigofumi. I guess that's what attracts me to the premise of Momo: The Girl God of Death ... there seems to be some similarity there.

Novel also had a partial release.

[I don't have a copy. I've had copies of most of the other anime-source-novels released at the time, but this one left me so unmoved I never bothered.]

I wish the anime had added in more from the novels, not just the sugar-coated tidbits. There were some pretty dark stories, including spoiler[a child who had been kidnapped as a baby when a murderer killed her parents and was raised by the murderer and was never allowed outside the house. When she was found by the police and handed over to relatives, she found out her "father" was dead, and had a mental breakdown.] Definitely one of the better stories.
