Given the subject matter, I can see Disney either passing this one up or passing it off to someone else entirely who will arthouse it around.

If Up on Poppy, a slow drama not even directly done by Miyazaki got a release in the states, I cant see this not at least getting a limited release here.

There is always the (slim) possibility that they might release it under their Touchstone Pictures label (that is how they got away with the first R rated "Disney" movie).

Disney would do something stupid, like giving it a limited release, unlike in South Korea, where Ghibli movies can do better than Disney movies.

This is actually really amazing. The movie earned more in its second week than it did in its first week, and in two weeks it earned just as much as Ponyo would have in its first two weeks. I think a lot of this probably has to do with the many positive reviews that came out during the weekend.

Overall, glad to see KT beating Ponyo.
