So, if the driver wasn't injured, how was he attacked exactly?

Well according to the article,

ANN wrote:
the suspect allegedly grabbed the driver's arm, uttered, "I'll kill you," and other words, and left without paying the 710-yen (about US$7) fare.

The suspect was reportedly drunk at the time, and told the first-responders on the scene that he paid the fare. The driver was not injured.

That still assault, and threatening a person. That's against the law. The worse part is he said when he was drunk.

For only 710 yen. (How far did the taxi go?)

But he's drunk, so it's OK, nothing's gonna happen.
Japan forgives anything that happens when drunk.
It's automatic "Get Out of Jail, Free" card. Laughing

That's cheap fare! He was probably drunk to say that.

Anyway, didn't something similar happen before with another Shueisha editor...?

710 yen is usually the base charge to go the first 2km.

t'weren't obvious to first-post-kun there, was it.

[or first-post-kun could be making some sort of stupid point about how people who make threats shouldn't be treated as some sort of criminal you know because free speech! and chilling effect! and "if we criminalise threats to kill we won't know who wants to kill us until they do it" and then probably segue into how people should be able to talk about their child-sex fantasies without social stigma because nazis, or something. But Zac likes it this way -- for all his frequent grumbles it's not like he's doing any of the things he could do to change anything -- and it's his bloody forum, so there's that.]

The real question is how much time was/will he be arrest/ed? It seems a small infringement so it should take only a night and maybe some kind of money penalty.

Note: This shouldn't be a news for an article!

1) Why shouldn't this be news?

2) Why are you quoting yourself?

Not setting a great example to his target audience all over $7... It's not like he's Editor-in-Chief in a company or anything.

This should be a news article as its, one: News and two: relevant to the website.

I would want more than a monitory penalty if it happened to me. Maybe some kind of suspended sentence.

To rain on your parade, his antics were classic assault and battery.

As nargun said, the first person that made the first post wasn't obvious. So I had to make it obvious to him.
