Holy shit. I knew the first print run for Shingeki 12 was better than Shingeki 11 but I still expected special edition 12 to sell less than special edition 11.

It even dragged up volumes 1-2, 10-11.

This year's volume 10 is also in the list almost at 2 mil.
Do you know how attack on titan before the fall is on this list? Didn't it just start. I thought it had only 2 chapters out.

The first two chapters(or three if chapter 0 is in the volume) make already 100+ pages so it can make a volume. They decided to sell it already.

Oops, should have said 10-11 (not 11-12).

Before the Fall spin-off premiered in August or September and it's a monthly, so more than 2 chapters.

The comedy spin-off looks like its sales have grown weaker.

The original series sales looks better than previously though volume 11 did have stock issues.

Comparison 10 to 12.

# 10
1,970,264 regular | 30,404 special (should be higher)
2,000,668+ 36 weeks

# 11
1.85 million first print run
1,527,580 regular | 275,066 special
1,802,646+ 19 weeks (actually 18 weeks + 3 days)

# 12
2.20 million first print run
1,015,384 regular | 327,119 special
1,342,503 2 weeks ( 1 week + presales)

Special edition 12 retails for 2980 yen while special 11 is 1200 yen. Regular edition retails for 450 yen.

They also timed a lot of Shingeki sales-events to coincide with the release of volume 12. Ichiban Kuji, a game, events at Sega arcades and at Lawson stores.

Oh okay, usually monthly shows have about 4 chapters which is why I was curious.
Thanks

Wow special edition 12 is 2.5 times more expensive and still sold more that is impressive. AoT doesn't stop impressing me. Hope it keeps it up.
Thanks

I already thought the sales for special edition 11 was very ridiculous. They just added a 3D card and stickers and upped the retail price from 450 yen to 1200 yen (more than 250% mark-up).

It sold 270k copies at least.

For special edition 12, it has a new episode. The retail price is 2980 yen, minus 450 yen for the manga and that's 2530 yen for the anime discs.

This matches the retail price for the anime dvds which went for 6000 yen for volumes 1-2 (2 episodes per) and 7500 yen for volumes 3-9 (3 episodes each). About 2580 yen average per episode with dvd bonuses.

So, I expected just perhaps 80k-90k copies sold for special edition 12 at most. Anime volume 1 only sold about 80k after all. And the other volumes less.

But it sold 300k copies in the first week. That already beats anime volume 1 revenue and volume 1 had two episodes.

No wonder they decided to do the same thing with volume 13.

Good for us. Smile
The more money they make the more chances for a season 2

It may be too good, lol.

Here's the estimated dvd sales revenue from the tv anime series so far.

006) *55,424 --,--- ¥1,867m 25 (*9) 2013 WIT Studio______ Pony Canyon__ Shingeki no Kyojin ★(5 vol)

Compare to Ilse's Notebook OAD - 2890 X 327,119 = ¥945m.

They're probably thinking - we should just keep on making OADs and bundling them with manga releases instead of making another tv series.

If volume 13 special sells just as well, I think it may be a while before we'll get s2 announcement, lol.

Honestly, the difference is just so big. 1 episode which they took over 3 months to animate made as much dvd sales as 6 episodes.

And they didn't have to pay airing fees to a tv studio.

But yeah, I think they know that the fans will lynch them if they don't do S2.

Vol.11 was originally supposed to include the OAD, but they delayed it to vol.12 and changed the bonus for vol.11. I'm pretty sure a good amount of the sales for the limited edition of vol.11 came when people pre-ordered it for the OAD before the bonus was changed.
