Huh, thought this would be a lock for FUNimation. Then again, they may still get it, despite this.

At anyrate, very good news. Definitely looking forward to this, after watching the original series.

...How many years has it been since the original? Feels like forever...

Idk about that, Mushi-shi ended up getting FUNi's S.A.V.E. edition, so they might not be interested in streaming or picking the title up. Sad I really loved Travis Willingham as Ginko, it was a good dub. But, nonetheless I look forward to seeing more Mushi-shi!

This is very promising news. I'm interested in Mushi-Shi, but I've kept dithering over seeing the series. I think that this could be a good introduction to it. It would be chronologically backward, but my understanding is that Mushi-Shi is episodic, so there's little real need to keep things in order.

Well I hope Funimation does license it for home video but I am glad CR is streaming it so I can watch it in HQ.

Yes and no. The overwhelming majority of the stories are one-shots (and great ones at that) per your understanding, but there are a few episodes in which we get some insight into how Ginko became who he is, so it's still probably a good idea to watch the episodes in proper order.

I hope this ends up on DVD, because I loved the series. Also hope Funi gets it if that does happen, because as Ovan already said, Travis Willingham is a wonderful Ginko. In fact, in my opinion, Ginko may match Roy Mustang as his best role so far in a very different, more understated way.

That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how well a title sold for them. This series was first released as singles, then as a complete collection. The S.A.V.E. edition was the fifth separate release of this one series for them. It's reasonable to assume it sold pretty well.

I always was under the impression from ANNCAST and the branding itself that the S.A.V.E. edition was for the shows that underperformed for Funimation. It sure didn't make their Anime Classics line, which is for the shows that performed very well for them.
