It's quite sad to see some of these DVD sales for recent anime. Some of these buyers need to upgrade to Blu-Ray instead of a downscaled version of what they saw on TV. With the money they're spending they don't have much of an excuse either.

The shows which are selling the most DVDs are ones popular with women. More otaku have moved onto blu-rays compared to fujoshi.

I'm betting that mostly all they really care about is the extras that come with this stuff anyway..

I agree. The otaku oligarchy ought to embrace "HD snobbery" and drive up the demand for blu-rays. Hopefully a by-product of that would be the creation of more 100% Full HD anime.

Otaku already do mostly buy BDs, to the point where some series don't even have DVDs produced, like Horizon. Or you have such lopsided sales that it's a wonder they even bothered with DVDs, like with Girls und Panzer selling like 30,000 BDs to 1,300 DVDs. It's really everyone else that's behind. What needs to happen before all TV anime go full 1080p is that hentai need to at least attain 720p.

DVDs aren't exactly dead technology, much like around the rest of the world where DVD still outsells Blu-ray for most big films.

Just look at the Gintama movie.
Right up there on the DVD charts yet not on the Blu-ray charts this week.
For anime, Blu-ray sells more for the 'otaku' shows as they are more technology 'geeks' than other fans.
