They're really going all out with this show, huh.
I want a CONQUERED stamp.

This idea of conquering the internet is pure genius.

This is pretty smart and looks fun. I just think it is ironic that Hope got slammed relentlessly by fans of the show for indicating that there might be some commercialization going on with Zvezda.

The entire cast of the Nasuverse is on vacation, obviously, which is why they chose to target the immortal Type-Moon with this sort of timing. One would think you would normally save the impossibly hard targets for later, regardless of the fact that the Crimson Moon is supposed to not awaken for another thousand years.

Who is hope?

Hope Chapman, one of the staff at ANN. She's one of the younger staffers, last I checked. What was being referred to was the review at the bottom of this page.

P.S. What she got slammed for was not saying there might be some commercialism going on (which is all anime ever), but for asserting that the entire purpose of this anime was to sell merchandise (and there was also the thing that just bugged me personally where she asserted that people like this sort of anime just because it's so random, when, well, this series isn't even all that random to begin with, so that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense). Which still certainly does not seem to be the case... (I mean, just compare it to almost any Sentai series, and know what it truly means to have a show totally devoted to selling merchandise). And that "irony" doesn't really apply here, because having a very well-funded advertising campaign for the anime is a completely different type of commercialism.

Well they specifically mention the merchandise in this advertising campaign, so it is kind of obvious that they are already starting to push Zvezda merch on us. I am not complaining about it, but I do think it was silly for people to get all up in arms about the suggestion that the anime might actually be used to sell us merch.

The problem was not the suggestion that the anime was designed to sell merchandise (which is pretty much every anime). It was producing a sarcasm-laced diatrobe against Sekai Seifuku which lacked any objective criticism and essentially just put down Sekai Seifuku on the basis of Ms. Chapman's dislike of the genre and the show's character designs. As a paid reviewer, I believe readers are entitled to expect a bit more from her than the typical "I hate it, therefore it's crap" type of review you can find on nearly any message board on the internet.

Oh please, Hope is one of the best reviewers on the site. Having seen the first episode of Zvezda, I can totally see why she wouldn't like it, because everything she mentioned are things I didn't like. It did just enough for me in the beginning to get my interest enough to give it a second episode, but it's hardly the next great masterpiece of animation.

Though this advertising strategy does sound pretty masterful.

Yeah, lines such as

Quote:
It's loaded up with loud overreaction humor and fetishized character archetypes tossing around overcomplicated weapons while flashing their panties.

Quote:
It's puerile junk constructed to sell the hype before the content and colorful collectibles before any comprehensible story.

Quote:
It's a comedy that isn't funny, an action show that's all splash with no waves, and with characters this dakimakura-ready, it isn't likely to be a compelling character drama either.

are so professional. These are the kinda lines you'd see a forum troll make, not a reviewer.

Those lines are fine except dakimakura-ready, which I have no idea what that is suppose to mean.

I can understand objecting to the sarcasm-laced first paragraph but those line quoted are fine. She really didn't like the show and was expressing her dislike.

Theres not a single panty flash in the anime, so that ones a lie. They even went out of their way to make Kates little skirt thing defy gravity to cover her up.

Its then a slippery slope... if she's willing to make up stuff to prove her point in one preview, she might be doing it in other previews too of shows I haven't seen. And at this point, any credibility she has is shot since I don't know if I can trust her.

By "Best" reviewer you mean the one that agrees with your tastes the most often? I just read every review I could find from her and even watched some of the videos on her own website and she is VERY subjective despite claiming in several places not to be.

Her score of ""oh my god I don't care" is VERY immature and unprofessional. Hell, it was my exact thoughts on the first episode. I didn't get paid for it though Neutral

I agree the characteres are Dakimakura-ready, but like Ryan said there wasnt any panty shots and she greatly exaggerated how bad pretty much everything was. It's not a special show in anyway and I do wish Kate would wear more clothes just so I could watch this without people thinking I'm a creep when they walk in my room, but she seemed to have some strange personal grudge against the show for some reason for hating it as much as she does when she has to resort to making things up. Besides the tanks and guns, and a sword..I dont even remember any "overcomplicated weapons"
