That sucks. Screw the 2004 Republican National Convention (it's pointless anyway). Anyway, I hope that BAAF won't be canceled because of a stupid reason like that (or any reason for that matter).

Just another reason not to vote Republican. (Besides the fact that they lied about the war, and that they continue to cut
funding for social services and adequate equipment and benefits for our troops.)

Pointless or not, politics are way more important than an anime convention. *lol* Sorry to say it, but I think it's true. I'm sure they'll figure some way out to move the con around. It would be a shame to have it cancelled alltogether.

Ditto. As for this convention being more important than the anime convention... please! I agree that politics are important but this particular convention isn't.

Hopefully it's better organzied this year.

Last year was quite over whelming for them I think.

I could barely/if ever even get onto the dealer's room floor (even during signing sessions I specifically wnated to get into).

The entire center section of the movie theaters was reserved for people who spent $400+ on their tickets/hotel packages (basically meaning you had to be from out of town).

Staff were often given incorrect information, which was then passed on to attendees of events and screwed them out of entrance to an event entirely or resulted in them having no seats Sad

(This happened to quite a few people I know. It happened to me when I was the first person in line to see Tokyo Godfathers. The staff had us move to another line, because they put us in the wrong line to start with, and then we ended up in the alst line that gained entracne to the movie and got pretty rotten seats).

And the film broke no less than 4 times during the world premier of Tokyo Godfathers.

Bah I say! If they can't get it together better than that cancel away. (Before you blast me I actually worked at Comic/Anime cons for several years. The last one I did was AnimeEast 95 in East Brunswick where the GITS USA premier was at. That was a pretty well organized/fun show for all Anime smile).

Ahh, CPM... how are they still in business? They're so disorganized! Even so, rotten timing with the political thingy. Yes, hopefully they'll just move it. Damn politics...

That just sucks. The Republican National Convention doesn't need to happen since they don't have to decide a Presidental nominee. They can really move it anywhere since the only purpose is to raise money for the RNC.

Great idea would be moving it to Flushing, the RNC I mean. They don't deserve Times Square...But that's just my opinion...

Oh well. I guess AnimeNext (www.animenext.org) will be the only anime convention near NYC now.

Spreaden the anti republican sentiments eh? i'm ok with that, but do me a favor, go around and get people to vote, the youth were like 14% voting last election, they could of turned the election over!

At any rate, yeah bum luck, republicans need money? they allready caused a 500+ billion dollar deficit and has a worse job rating than the great depression. They need more money? lmao

I think moving BAAF out of Time Square would be a wonderful idea. I've considered going to BAAF, but having it in downtown New York City just makes it too expensive. Also from what I hear, BAAF is really outgrowing their space.

I agree. I haven't really looked at any of the numbers, but instinctively, moving it into the new Downtown Brooklyn Marriott might make quite a lot of sense...

The two things I enjoy the most, politics and anime.

Why must they always fight Crying or Very sad

Can't they just get along.

As a native New Yorker, I would rather protest the Republican convention rather than attend BAAF. Its horrible the way they will use the city's tragedy to justify themselves. Anyway, some things are just more important than anime Wink

Its unfortunate that BAAF could be cancelled but maybe they could use the time to do some extra planning for next year's convention. I agree that times square is too crowded, but who wants to go to Brooklyn? First of all, the otaku tourists are probably scared of Brooklyn because of, I dunno, the stuff they see on TV like Law and Order. People from middle America seem to fear New York. Secondly, some New Yorkers would rather not have to travel so far to get to a convention. Also, times square just has alot to offer, like the virgin store and movie theaters to show the movies. The BAAF people should find a place that isnt necessarily a tourist mecca, but still has alot to offer.

Ok, ok i just dont want to go from the bronx to brooklyn Wink

Also as a native new yorker why not move it to the Jacob Javits Center and move it backwards one week so thaat it can still take place during the summer.(cough, cough, so students can attend) Parking is nearby and a short walk to the nearest subway station. Maybe during the convention, they could have more cops nearby for better security. Also like i mentioned in the other thread, shuttle buses to the center which the city has provided for before, would be nice but probably too expensive.

With the Center they can take over the whole first floor. The 2 ballrooms that the marriott had can be taken over by the Javits's hall 1D or 1B (Source: http://www.nymarriottmarquis.com/business_services/event_space_main.asp) Also you can split up hall 1A to make 10 theatres (holding at least 200 people and make 6 screening rooms (holding 65 people in the smallest room. Problem solved in the film festival section. Take hall 1C and you have the new bigger dealers room. Full floor plans for the Javits center here:
http://www.javitscenter.com/showmanagers/sm_floorplansandrates.htm

Overall, the website states that there are no events in Aug. (or maybe they havn't posted them yet) so the only problem here would be that renting the center would cost too much. Come on BAAF staffers, we can still have a convention this year, maybe at a Convention Center!

And also because i'm too lazy to go from the bronx to brooklyn! :D
