so... how is akb48 selling over 1 million copies in the first week news, this has been happening since the 21st single (Everyday, Katyusha). And their 31st single (Sayonara Crawl) produced better results (if comparing sales) with 1.4 million compared to 970k on day 1 sales.

I have a small correction to this article.

It states “The amount of CDs sold for the single surpasses any other idol group in Japan's history.” While I’d like to think that Oshima Yuko’s final single holds that title, it doesn’t. The top selling AKB48 single is Sayonara Crawl at 1.7 million in its first week, Mae Shika Mukanee sold 1.09 million. The notable think about this new single is that it puts the group over 30 million singles/albums sold total, which is the most ever for a Japanese female group. SPEED is in second place at 19.55 million, mentioned in the Oricon article, so AKB surpassed them many singles ago. The only other female artist to reach 30 million sold are the four solo artists mentioned in the article. The fact of selling over 30 million is the main point of the Oricon article because it’s in the title.

So I would put it as “The amount of CDs sold for the band (not single) surpasses any other female (have to specify since SMAP outsells them) idol group in Japan's history.”

Should divide that number by about 10 for the # of actual buyers buying multiple copies (assuming 10 being the average number of copies).
