It's amazing this type of crap gets another sequel...
I hope some sane-minded investors/producers can get the likes of DGMan, Kekkaishi a reboot instead of doing boob-bouncing series like this.

I really don't see how those producers are insane for making something that is profitable.

Oddly enough, I was just rewatching the 4th season on DVD and wondering if they were going to do any more. Nice to hear that they are, it's one of those enjoyable franchises full of dumb fun.

Be more grateful to your garbage. This fanservice fluff is the type of stuff that makes the big bucks and provides studios the income to make more intelligent shows of better quality which generally make less money. It's smart business.

What more? I like Ikkitousen and all, I think it’s a really good series, and it does fan service and action very well, but I’m of the mind that this series should be put to bed. The last few seasons are pretty good, and I thought the OVA sort of wraps everything up.

I get it, it makes money, it’s a title that has a following among the fans so the probability of commercial success is considerably high.

As I said, I like Ikkitousen just fine, however; enough is enough, if they want to do more of these profitable fan service fighter shows, how about finishing Sekirei and concluding Queen’s Blade Rebellion.

Of course, I will be checking this new Ikkitousen season out, and I’ll just have to wait and see what it’s like I guess; maybe it’ll prove me wrong, maybe this series has plenty of steam still left in it. Guess I'll have to wait until I give it a try; preconceived opinions can bite a person in the ass.

No it's not because that's not how it works Rolling Eyes Jesus. Companies don't purposely make shows they know will bomb just because they have some extra cash laying around. Bones didn't make Heroman because they got extra moneys from FMA and just decided to blow their load on a show they knew would bomb. They did it because they thought it would do well. Stop being so insecure on shows you don't like being popular

Of course studios don't make shows they know will bomb.

They do make shows that might bomb, but only because those same shows could also turn out to be big sellers.

Unless a studio is doing well on pushing out more shows that are big sellers than bombs, however, they need a certain mix of known quantities; shows that are unlikely to turn a big profit, but equally unlikely to not make at least a modest profit. A franchise that has already had 4 series is a good choice for this.

You're half right. Bones made Heroman because they had Disney, Namco and Dentsu throwing money at them to animate it. And they thought it might do well, or at least somebody convinced them it might.

Here's why the "bad shows pay for good shows" argument is nonsense: actual animation studios rarely get a significant cut of the money the shows they produce make. Anime studios are commissioned to do work, and generally just gets whatever the production committee pays them for said work. Nor do they keep some kind of coffer full of money to pull from when they actually want to make an in-house project. Even something like Kyousougiga, which was a clear passion project by Toei still has a freakin toy company on the production committee.

Ikkitousen gets made because teenagers like boobs. Kyousougiga gets made because someone at Toei has an inroad to get the project funded by somebody else.

I'm sure the figures keep on selling though

That used to be the common case, with companies like Dentsu pulling the strings. But now it's becoming more common for anime studios to join the production committee. It depends on title and size of the studio (like with Production IG), but nonetheless it happens more now than before. So in this case they'd be using their own partial money and the rationale of some shows subsidizing others does apply (again, only way to know for sure is to look at production credits).

I was just thinking about a few things concerning this new Ikkitousen anime coming out this year. If ARMS is doing it, my theory is that they possibly want to recoup any damages from their last outing; Wanna be the Strongest in the World, which, from what I gather didn’t do so well.

Wanna be the Strongest in the World wasn’t necessarily bad, it was fun, had some decent action and animation and great artwork/character designs, however; I resign to the fact that it wasn’t anything special either. As a matter of fact, while I feel Wanna be the Strongest in the World wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good either; for me, it was rather disappointing, just okay.

With this in mind, I take into consideration that Ikkitousen has been a successful franchise for over 10 years; which is pretty good for this type of series. I agree that the marketing angle is fan service and cool fight/action scenes with colorful characters, however; it is a pretty decent show. Each season had its own storyline, we learn a little more about the characters in each go, and the action (and fan service) just seemed to escalate in quantity and quality as the seasons progress.

Is this series for everyone? Hell no, and I’m saying that as a fan of this franchise, but then again, no anime ever made is for everyone; we all have different tastes, and nobody’s tastes are greater or lesser than anyone else’s. Regardless, we must accept the fact that Ikkitousen as a series has performed well on a commercial level, and love it or hate it; the show’s success wasn’t entirely the result of the fan service, but, I’ll admit it did help.

Fan service anime are a dime a dozen, and like any other subgenre, there are some that stand out, and others that fail and fall into ambiguity. I find the shows with fan service that usually do well offer more than just “boobies,” opting for decent to great storytelling, memorable characters that stand out and overall sound execution.

This is why I think there’s another Ikkitousen series coming; it’s a safe bet, it’s withstood the test of time, the characters have become somewhat iconic in the anime community; either due to infamy or positive reaction, despite the type of anime it is, there is some cool storytelling going on, and the martial arts action is kinetic and somehow never seems to get old. In other words, there are other and more significant reasons to watch this series other than just fan service.

With this upcoming Ikkitousen release, fan service and action aren’t just a superficial components frivolously added into a story, or used to move merchandise; the sanctity of the familiar is.

As much as I enjoyed this series, I still think this show should come to some sort of conclusion or ending soon; there is such a thing as going on too long, and that applies to shows we favor as well.
