Now those are ridiculous sales for Love Live. I expected them to sell quite a lot, but 82k is amazing.

They went all-out with this one, making the first volume almost half price, adding an event ticket and even English subtitles. This is how to break records.

Just saying this now: µ's just stomped Madoka and Bakemonogatari.

Best TV anime sales record broken.

I suspect this might become a trend. I wouldn't have known at all about this or UtaPri if not for those insane numbers on volume one. You would have a hard time finding better marketing than "record sales". Of course, the English subtitles don't do anything here.

Can anyone update to this news as "best seller of 21st century" (source: http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-24903.html). This is most valuable for Love Live!, I need to add this information into article on Wikipedia.

I could have sworn that yaraon was an acceptable source itself for anime topics on Wikipedia. If it isn't, it should be. You might want to start a topic for it in the anime project on WP.

Hopefully these eye-popping numbers will guarantee a movie version. Cool

And thus LL s1 v1 became the new best selling tv volume of the 21st century(once week 2 rolls around). Unlike the other best selling volumes however(bakamono, Gundam tv series, SnK etc..) it will drop like a rock with v2.

Nice to see that Gochuisa was underestimated.

I don't think you 2 know how anime sales works.

Its average will need to beat madoka and Bakamono, which won't happen. If its lucky, it might beat SnK, but thats it.

It's the highest first week sales of TV anime in any century. While we may forget that once we boil the sales down to series averages, I know now that it sold more than Evangelion Genesis on VHS + LaserDisc in 1996, the previous first week sales record holder.

Will be interesting to see how it stacks up with the full franchise yearly sales next year. Last year it made 2.5 billion yen or more unless I'm getting the units wrong and it should blow that away this year.

Interesting. This sort of seems to dispute the oft-repeated claim that there is no incentive for Japanese distribs to lower prices since demand is inelastic (i.e. since roughly the same number of units will be sold regardless of price, you may as well price high).

Its half price because it only includes 1 episode. So this does not dispute anything. Its actually rather common for a 1-episode half price v1 to sell more than the rest of the series.

Not to mention the ticket included is a chance ticket for an event. There's reports of people buying 50+ copies for a chance to get a winning ticket. It's really just AKB48 type artificial inflation. Rest of the series would be lucky to get half of what volume 1 did and trends show later volumes drop off pretty sharply compared to 1.

This is the first volume out of a total seven which will be released for Love Live. You'll be surprised how much less the next few sell when they're at normal pricing. They'll need more event tickets and such to boost sales and probably will.

Aside from that, I'm looking forward to seeing how Mekakucity Actors sells. That's being released in 12 volumes (One episode each) which should be interesting.

Such negativity. And, as it was stated above, its only half-price cause its half as much content.

Seriously, are people still in denial over how much of a sensation Love Live is?

Re: rederoin: You don't seem to understand how Wikipedia sourcing works. If it were only official sources, things like Hitoshi Doi, ANN's news and reviews, Erica Friedman's blog and Chris Beveridge's projects wouldn't be allowed. Surprise: they all are.
