I have no problem with Mandrake's action against the thieves, however, Mandrake's 1 week time to give the thieves the chance to redeem themselves by returning the stolen item is too lenient.

I'm not aware of Japanese laws per say, but...I'd say what they're doing is pretty classy, in a way. I mean, if they wanted to, they could just turn the footage over to the cops right away and let the cops find the guy. Instead, they seem to be giving him a chance to return the item, not get outted as a thief, and go on about his business elsewhere. If the guy has any brains at all, he'll take this chance while he's got it.

Well that's pretty interesting to see, but 1 week, why not make it by tomorrow. The shoplifter could bail out of the city and go to another city. It'll be too late to even capture him.

Too bad if he does return it, he'll have his identity exposed online anyway, it's a lose-lose for our Dr. Snatch em' and grab em'.

I assume that if he does return it, he might just get a slap on the wrist, and just be banned from the store or something. I imagine Mandarake would try to be discrete about it? Though they didn't really promise anything, I guess. |

I think what they are doing is perfectly fine and seems pretty fair since my personal course of action would be hunting him down and "teach" him a "lesson"

they're sure being nicer than I'd be. I do think it's nice they're giving them a chance to atone before calling in the big guns tho.

Why would anyone think that Mandarake is out of line here? Criminals don't have any right to privacy, so he should be grateful that they're giving him any options at all.

There is another possibility, he may have been acting as an agent for someone else. Sell and Grab, where he does not have the goods to return.

It's not the same as publishing child offender pictures, since a shoplifted item can always be returned, like they asked, and the matter resolved.
Unless he sold it already, of course, poor sap...

I just can't see how it's out of line. I just don't understand why people are being too nice to such kind of criminal, that they think this is out of line. If anything, Mandarake is way, way too lenient about it. They just put the censored photo for the warning, so the criminal will not be affected socially if he later returns the stolen goods. But if he doesn't, he'd probably be cussed by everyone for the rest of his life because once it's online you can't do anything about it. Especially with recent social media, people can start posting the photo everywhere to shame him. Once he's famous being a shoplifter, I'm sure his future and career will be over (well, if he had one to begin with)
