Well this is nice, but I can't stay up to watch all of it. Sad

Nice. Been really enjoying my re-watch with the new dub. Smile

Normally I'd either think this was nice and/or cool, or be indifferent to it... but these are episodes where some of them were only played not even 2 months ago. Toonami and [adult swim], in the past, have been quite known for repeating episodes ad nauseum until people would rather have them not on TV than to have to see them again.

If they're going to do a Labor Day marathon, I'd rather see movies, or something that isn't currently airing (or episodes that haven't been aired recently).

I also think this marathon is a cool idea.

And so far Toonami has not done that. Every show they got had one run before it got kicked off the schedule for another show. This marathon is for people that maybe just got into AoT or have not seen all of the episodes that have aired. And hell, this just shows how popular AoT is on Toonami.

How fitting, since watching the show is quite laborious.

Toonami has run some shows into the ground, Cowboy Bebop had multiple runs on Toonami. Full Metal Alchemist is on it's second or third run. I think what the person said could easily be applied to those two shows as well as a couple of others in rotation at the end of the block.

I do not entirely disagree with you, but this line is pretty funny.

Well, I was frankly hoping for a movie like we got for last Labor Day with Evangelion 2.22. If it wasn't for the new episode of Space Dandy, this would probably be the first week since Toonami returned that I wouldn't bother watching.

Guess they'll probably do a marathon for episodes 13-25 as well in December.

This is not really the type of show to view over and over again, but good for those who haven't seen it.

I'm guessing this is more for the folks who jumped in halfway through the season (either they just discovered it, or weren't interested beforehand) rather than the die-hard fans.

Though, I have to admit, I have actually never seen Cowboy Bebop past its first episode despite all the reruns of it. Embarassed

Those shows only continue to run because of how popular they are. The fact that Cowboy Bebop and FMA:B have been running at some ungodly hour every Saturday for years, going nearly uninterrupted in that time (Bebop disappeared for awhile when the rights got all funky) and still manages to bring in good enough ratings for them to keep it on the air says a lot. People clearly still enjoy watching those shows. The number of people complaining about them being "run into the ground" are tiny in comparison to the numbers that keeps it on the air.

That and because they're for the most part cheap to air. They gotta fill that back end of the block that less people watch overall with something.

I'm a little surprised by the reactions here. Running AoT into the ground? Why can't they just air a movie? This isn't really the kind of show that can be marathoned?

First off, this is the kind of show that can be marathoned, especially the first twelve episodes. Trost is one continuous story with no breaks, so it makes perfect sense to run those together as a marathon in addition to the introductory and training episodes beforehand.

Second point, you're all missing the bigger picture here. AoT is successful enough that rather than air a movie, Toonami wants to run all the previous episodes back to back for old fans and any stragglers who want to catch up or see what the fuss is about. Marathoning is only done for very successful shows as a way of guaranteeing at least some viewership during holiday periods when most TV viewing is otherwise dead. This is great news as it's tangible evidence that AoT is by all means Toonami's biggest hit, and more power to them as program runners for riding that!
