I never used their retail sector but I own Miami Guns and Risky Safety.

Never a good thing to see a business go away.

That's too bad, as it's never good to see a niche retailer close their doors and I bought quite a few things from them over the years. Once upon a time they had a nice figure selection and I got some good deals on some pre-owned manga and DVD's as well. Unfortunately, when box sets became the norm, scouring all the smaller shops for that long-missing single DVD became a less common occurrence.

Truth be told, I wondered if this was coming for quite some time. They stopped carrying figures a few years back, and it seemed like lately they weren't really carrying a lot of new stock and their pre-owned selection had started to dwindle as well.

Anyway, you'll be missed, AnimeNation. You had a good run.

Niche retailers are becoming extinct due to Amazon and online based retailers, it's the nature of business. I remember when Brick and mortar import shops and independent shops selling import games for current gen systems were around, but went away because of sites like Play-Asia and NCSX.

20 years is a good run, especially when you consider the company's roots. AnimeNation started as a retail spin-off of a hentai pay site called the Freethought Archive. I know because I was a subscriber to it and saw the earliest versions of AN as a result. So, this for me has become another case of a company I have watched start-up, develop, take some risks, and fold. Sad to see you go.

Niche retailers can't match large-volume retailers who can charge less since they make up the smaller profit margins thru higher volume.

It's sad that another Anime retailer has closed it's doors but they were on life support for many years.

Just about everything they had for sale was at or close to full retail, no sales, no free shipping, not so great selection I don't know how they made it this long with RightStuf blowing away all the competition.

I did like their ask John articles he had years of knowledge that the guy should write columns for this site.

It's a shame, but truthfully, in the 15 years of buy anime online, I think I only used them once for a t-shirt back in '02.

I don't know if it was their prices, their selection, or a lack-luster experience (took 6 weeks to get a t-shirt), but they completely vanished from my radar.

Now if RightStuf closed, then I'd be truly saddened.

Sadly, this column isn't as active as it used to be. I loved that column.

RIP, AnimeNation's retailer division.

I've only used that site a few times but non the less it's sad to see them go. They just weren't competitive enough for me so I rarely check their site after awhile.

Hearing this news does make me wanted to go back to some of the other retailers I've used and enjoyed but stop using because of RightStuf's prices and service. Particularly Anime Castle, I use to order tons of stuff from them but then discovered RightStuf and just stopped.

Err, no: amazon runs at a sustained loss and has for many years. It continues to charge the prices it charges not because they are profitable -- at no volume is amazon profitable -- but because investors are willing to lend Amazon incalculable sums of money in exchange for a hoped-for payoff later.

What could that payoff be, you might ask?

I used them in the past too randomly to see how they were. Didn't have any issues with them but at the same time I just simply forgot about them because there's rightstuf and robs anime corner.

Only used their site twice or three times and that was years ago... I think I bought some Bible Black dvd's from there cause every where else it was out of stock. Yea... Bible Black was on fire back in the day. Also bought some dumb small trinkets.
