At first I thought "oh just another religious person in the south trying to censor media, nothing to see here" but it's actually nice to see that this minister is not getting his way. I love it when people see things logically.

At least they aren't giving into it. Even though something like Vampire Knight is kinda racy. I would hate to see less anime and manga at the public library. I remember visits their fondly when I was young it was such a good resource for me because you know your parents can't buy you everything. This was slightly before everything was online. I know it is still how some kids in my family get access to some stuff. I know my little cousin still gets manga from the library so she can read in between classes at school because she can't get her tablet out in class. Even with everything being accessible online it is nice to hold a physical copy in your hands. That reminds me though that I still have some fines I need to pay Embarassed

He had an issue with dried flowers? Someone needs to get a life.
The word 'demonic' was frequently used in our house as a way to ban movies, music and books that my parents didn't like. Their efforts backfired and they ended up raising a bunch of long-haired heavy metal, horror and occult nerds who dislike religion and live normal, quiet lives.
Good on the library for standing up to this guy. He doesn't like subject matter involving vampires and magic? He doesn't have to read it. Leave everyone else out of it.

By this logic, Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia should also be banned, even though their writers were Christian.

So he made the local paper and a few comic/manga websites.

I find it idiotic that the city's mayor decided not to honor 'Banned Book Week', because some minister wanted to ban a bunch of books.

It was the perfect time to honor it, as this was the perfect example as to why there is a "Banned Book Week".

Sometimes I just really wish there was an omnipotent being out there that could just go ahead and whisper in some people's ear something like: "Just stop it. You are being a f*cking asshole".

A 123 page response? She spent way too much time on this guy.

"Seriously?"
"Grow up."
"No."

Any of those responses would have been suitable, and more environmentally friendly.

Also, anecdote time: The story at my high school is that there was a parent who every year tried to ban the reading of Fahrenheit 451. Still not sure if that was real irony, or an ironic joke.

I think we should ban all books that promote North African religion. Such as the Bible Torah and Koran. There is plenty of evidence that reading them turns people into monsters with no respect for other human beings. Twisted Evil

I hate it when pastors or reverends take stuff like this stuff so seriously to where they only irritate people to the point where they become atheists. If they would just lighten and realize it's just fiction and not teaching anything immoral life would be so much simpler.

Nope, the Bible, the Torah, the Coran don't turn people into monsters. People turn people into monsters. Religion has nothing to do with it (except that it is used as an excuse to perpetrate evilness, but so can science). Seriously, look at the history of the 20th century, most genocides commited during the last century were done in the name of science not religion. So do we ban science ? Question
