First Blue Steel and now Biscuit Hammer? Don't get me wrong, I'll still support Crunchyroll Manga but I never considered the possibility of Biscuit Hammer getting on there with Seven Seas getting ready to release it in about a month. I'll still buy the physical volumes though. |

I believe Biscuit Hammer was up on JManga, not sure if it was completely translated or not, but it appears that JManga may have been owned by Crunchyroll, meaning CR could own their translations.
In any case, I'm still going to buy the physical release because <3 Seven Seas and <3 Mizukami Satoshi. |

Can't see this as anything but a dirty move on CR's part, given how close they made this to the physical release by Seven Seas. Seriously hope it backfires on them, especially considering how consumer friendly Seven Seas has been and how much communication they keep with the community. I'll obviously be supporting the physical release as this is my favorite manga by my favorite mangaka and I advise anyone who enjoyed the manga to do the same.
And it's kind of funny how copyright works. Both these companies bought the rights to release the same series. Didn't know that was possible. I guess now there will be two official English translations. Another thing... Asamiya? Yuuhi's family name is Amamiya not Asamiya - not only the fan scanlations have it that way, Seven Seas also uses Amamiya. I also just checked the original volumes in Japanese and the Japanese Wikipedia and his name in furigana is あまみや ゆうひ - Amamiya Yuuhi. But I guess this is CR keeping the status quo for their Mizukami series': their description of Spirit Circle was broken for months - they called the main female character Mizukami Satoshi (the name of the author, who is a man by the way) - even though I personally commented in several places to let them know it was a mistake the very day they announced SC. Kind of a small example of how little CR cares and a reason as to why I get their releases through other websites and instead order the original volumes of series I liked from Japan to support the authors. |

digital rights and print rights are exclusive, its the same with one punch man as I've nagged viz about releasing it in print and they claim not to have the print rights. |

Don't really have much to do with Crunchyroll streaming and nothing with their managa. Too much of a physical release guy. So, it's nice for the folks that read their managa online but I'll be spending more $ with Seven Seas.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind Crunchyroll getting series that have already been licensed when there is so much other manga out there that is just as if not more popular. (Obviously there are exceptions such as Attack On Titan but with smaller titles like this I just don't get it)

No one stops you from buying the books, digital and print are not exclusive but complementary. There are series I love getting in print but there are other series I prefer reading online. Biscuit Hammer is one of the latter that doesn't interest me enough to get it in print but that I might read on Crunchyroll.
Also, you don't know the background behind this license. In the end, it was either the licensor's decision not to offer an exclusive digital license or Seven Seas' not to get it. Maybe Crunchyroll actually negotiated with Seven Seas as they practically got a worldwide license while Seven Seas probably only has one for north america. I also think Crunchyroll isn't is spoilt for choice in their manga offering. They are probably happy to get what they can with publishers preferring not to give out their best licenses for now or to go for more lucrative platforms. |

No use bashing the fact there's a separate physical and digital release. For most physical releases even before CR's existence there's been a digital release available through 'other' channels, and that's still true even for TLaBH CR notwithstanding.
So for all intents and purposes the Status Quo still remains the same, except the digital may have moved slightly more towards the 'legal' side. That shouldn't be something to complain about, really, people... |

Seven Seas didn't find out until today which is probably why it feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth for them when it's so close to their release. I just feel it would be more efficient if they worked together to create one translation if they were going to do it this way rather than have both parties use their resources on separate translations. Crunchyroll are using Kodansha USA's translations for the likes of Attack On Titan & Fairy Tail so it can be done. |

Well, like I said, they might already own the translations that were done for JManga. Do we know how long they've been negotiating for the digital license? Since Seven Seas doesn't deal in digital manga, it's entirely possible the JP licensor just never mentioned that anyone was currently in talks for it. Since they're posting the entire series at once, it's possible their negotiations reached a certain point where CR said "OK, we can now translate it, it's just a matter of when we get to post it live." Sure, it's kind of annoying for Seven Seas, but the world of business isn't always a clear-cut picture of "this entity was completely in the wrong." |
