Ah. I figured IMDB blew it out of proportion. They are a tabloid site for the most part.

Well hopefully, since the Japanese culture ministry is recognizing anime and manga as art, they'll subsidize more productions to provide incentives to keep anime in Japan.

I remain sceptical, Japan excels at keeping antiquated distribution and sales models in practice (a friend of mine runs a webshop from Tokyo and can attest to this). The industry doesn't need subsidization, they need to rethink and reform the way money and rights flow.
