I recently played most of the routes of the VN. I'm not currently watching the anime, because I plan on marathoning it. What is a shame is there is no way they can do all the routes. Makina's life is pretty f*ed up. In fact, so is Michiru (best girl by the way), and Sachi. I haven't played the other two. But it really is a shame, because they are all great characters, and Michiru's route in particular made me actually shed manly tears. I don't see how the anime can be anywhere as good as the VN is for that alone Sad

I'm sad that there is no mention the quality of animation and directing in this review.

I never played the VN but I plan to. Although I'm a bit turned-off with the anime, I think I might want to stick to this series for a little more. I heard the VN is great, and depending on the direction of the anime it could turn out great or awful. These first few episodes seems to turn this adaptation to the latter but let's just wait.

And I am totally weirded out by the first anime key visual (the one put in the review page) because Makina's representative fruit is supposed to be strawberry and Sachi's is apple, while in the key visual it's the other way around. I don't know if the anime production is doing it on purpose or awfully made a grand mistake. If it's on purpose, then probably several VN fans will go "What? Why?" and if it was a mistake then the adaptation could turn really awful since the production team carelessly missed that.

Anime cry

I just watched episode 3 and I do question what she was actually going to do in the first place, but I don't think she was going that far.

I agree this was a fairly lighthearted episode but I don't think it completely ignored the mystery, that said the series blunt sense of humor in regards to what the characters do is hilarious I think.

I really think that grisaia is in many senses very similar to Higurashi but that it is much more adult oriented. Anyone who watched Higurashi knows that the fun slice of life moments mean just as much as the horror and mystery elements do. They work together for create something that is much more then the sum of its parts, and I am sorry but Higurashi has real hints through out , heck it has characters come out right and say exactly what is happening a lot of times.

I actually kind of wonder how they will do this within 12 episodes.
If they want to introduce the characters and all of the girls routes into a mere 12 episodes then i guess they will rush and butcher things up.

Sorry about that!

I'm mostly enjoying the directorial choices - the symbolism I mentioned in the review isn't harped upon, and there's a subtlety that I think is working very well. I haven't played the game (yet - totally playing it once the season is done) so I can't speak to how the choice are working in an adaptive way. The closest I can come is that someone in this thread said that an apple was apparently substituted for a strawberry as someone's "image" fruit, and given the way the show seems to be headed, I tend to think that was a good choice, given that an apple is generally more loaded.

The animation and artistic choices are also quite nice. Episode three is just full of innuendo, and the scene where Yuji is being measured for his pouch did a nice job implying something else without going over the top. Sometimes I think the walking looks a bit stiff, but I'm really enjoying the way the skirts move.

Whoops, had to refresh cache. Works fine now.

I'm really worried about this show now. If they're really gonna squish each route to two episodes, then this won't be worth my time.

Yep I was also worried about how they would go about doing this and seeing how much was cut hasn't exactly left me hopeful. To think it skipped spoiler[those dates entirely and even naming the cat. Or rather WHY she didn't want to name the cat.] I was crying over this episodes ending in the VN but there is no real attachment to these characters in the show. If only this show had more time.

I was really glad with how episode 4 went. I played the visual novel, and there is like 6 hours of school antics. You need those antics to make you care, but having many episodes about that stuff would be boring. I am really enjoying how we jump right into michiru's arc. not to mention how they keep animating the story during the credits. this show is one to watch in my opinion.

You want to read amane's route next most likely.
She has in my opinion the best route, followed by makina.
Mostly because i can't stand makina's endings and i really like amane's.

Just one word of advice though, amane's route has a flashback in it and you dont want to be eating anything during it. Or drink anything other than some water.
Trust me.....I have never felt so guilty in my life before while eating pizza.
