This show really surprised me with the themes and characters so far. Could be one of the golden eggs of this season but I've been enjoying every episode at this point.

I, too, expected very little out of this digital card game-based show...until I saw the trailer. Man, they poured some real money into this.

This isn't my type of show usually. But between the anime, music and the characters all being likeable in there own way. I love it. I can't wait for the next episode. I'm honestly surprised cause i've never liked any of the card games or card games turned anime.

There were two ways they could have done this:

1. Make it about playing a Children's Card Game.
2. Giving a story to the characters from the Children's Card Game.

I was gonna check this series out only from the incredible visuals of the preview videos, but it's incredible that a series based around only a card game could be this good, I was really surprised. At least so far. I really hope it keeps up. The characters are fun, the animation looks great (the dragon in episode 1, wow!). It's a joy to watch for many reasons so far. Shaping up to be one of the best series of the year.

If it wasn't for the fact that I've been told repeatedly the source material is a card game, I would never think that this was a card game anime. This is almost pure fantasy no matter how you slice it, and I am loving it.

Also, I think that we need to applaud studio MAPPA here. The few works they took part in, from Kids on the Slope to Zankyou to Space brothers are all great shows. (I don't like the writing on Zankyou but Twelve and Lisa are one of my favorite couples.) This is a studio to watch for sure.

This card game adaptation came certainly out of nowhere.
B+ funny as hell and the characters are very well established already. Now some already a bit of worldbuilding and we have a A level hit. The Opening is pretty great too. I wonder if the animators are basing the red afro on Ideon ?

Yup, I had a feeling it would be something more due to the staff like that director since I've loved his work, I'm so glad that trailer hinted that this wouldn't be just a card game thing and actually take that setting and go for a real show. Those visuals were a great tease.

Really impressed with this so far. Smile

I would be glad if someone could correct or confirm my understanding of the situation behind this anime, which comes from 4chan and Japanese friends.
According to them a company (cygames) which makes more money every year than the entire anime industry ($2 billion or so), decided to give MAPPA a ridiculous amount of money straight up to make this show in order to advertise their game, no production committee or anything. They imposed nearly no artistic limitations, only asked to make the anime somehow related to the game's lore. Cygames doesn't care for anime sales or anything like that, since it's pocket money for them.
This resulted in the rare situation of the studio being able to just make whatever the fudge they think is good, and being able to make it look and sound good as well.

If this is indeed true, it would explain the fact that this show is way better than a show based on a card game should [expletive] be, and would explain why I am so hyped about this show.

This show is a lot of fun, and its main aim, so far, just seems to be having fun.

In that regard, it reminds me of Space Dandy, and that's a really good thing.

I have to say, while I do adore the show, I was fairly disappointed by the latest episode.
I felt the animation was not up to their standard (they could have done so much more with the ships and the final battle scenes), but there was also something seriously lacking in the episode. Favaro randomly explaining his past made no sense and felt out of place, and eventually even the reveal about his father's true fate had no emotional weight, it didn't seem Favaro even gave a crap.

Amira also seems to be cognitively declining every episode, from a seemingly intelligent woman in episode one, to a little girl, to practically an infant this episode.

Watching this show is like playing Shin Megami Tensei with all these religious names being dropped left and right.

I think Favaro is basically Space Dandy personality wise.

The combination of the above two things is amazing for me. 9/10 so far, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a 10/10 show
