"Pizza Hut" and "delicious" are two things that don't go together...

*sees the 3180 yen price tag and is glad that I live in the states*

I can get 3 medium (large with deals) pizzas for at or less than the $29 they are charging for one of those.

The point is it's targeted at obsessive virtual idol fans who will totally plunk down for that product/price the same way they did the Domino's Pizza Hatsune Miku tie-in. I think you vastly underestimate the kind of hold these characters have over some people in Japan.

And obviously the reason this would never happen stateside is that there's no demographic for it here like there is in Japan where Idol Activities is a known property.

The price is normal for pizza in Japan but still outrageous when you consider the size and price of a large pizza in Japan compared to the US. You also fail to realize kids play the arcade game as well unlike the Miku tie-in which is mostly geared towards Otaku and may want those cards.

Also, most grown-up Aikatsu fans are actually women, not men (referred in the article as "Aikatsu Onee-san (アイカツお姉さん)".

Nice if you are a little 5 year old gorl. I mean, I like Aikatsu, but it will be ridiculous for me a 20+ person to go to a japanese pizza hut an orederd an Aikatsu pizza.

Keep in mind for the extra cost of a pizza in Japan covers the additional the cost of slightly better ingredients and higher related food costs, also note unlike outside of Japan, delivery vehicles and fuel, plus insurance are covered by the pizza joint, not the driver. And finally, driver are also paid better than outside of Japan. Sales vol of pizza is lower too so costs are higher to cover overhead.

On my last extended stay in Japan, I was averaging about ¥2500 per medium pizza, and was eating it two to three times a week. I find a medium pizza in Japan fills me up better than a large does in Unistat or Canada.

There are also so great deals on pizza. Pizza Hut, Pizza-La, Domino's and Strawberry Cones offer some great coupons, like two M pizzas, and two cokes for ¥2000, or ¥1000 off any L pizza. Two subs, two cokes and two sides for ¥1200 just to name a few of the coupons I have sitting here beside the computer in case I get hungry later on.

lol. I am a 21 year old male and I actually ordered this pizza last month for me and my host family.

It was about 3300 yen~ and it came with the aikatsu themed box, stickers, and one of two Aikatsu card sets.
