A little disappointed not to see Beatrice from Umineko here. She might not be a slasher in a traditional sense, but she has to be the queen of Halloween-related murders in anime...

And all these polls are making me want to check out Pretty Cure. Is it enjoyable for all ages or is it pretty kid-ish?

Agreed, and that's not just because of my bias for Umineko. Beatrice is a master killer, and not just in the sense that she has a large body count, but also how she executes those crimes. You'll be wracking your head for days just to figure out how she did it.

Surprised to see no mention of Barry the Chopper or even Light Yagami.

Johann Liebert is definitely unsettling and uncanny in his ability to get whoever he wants to do whatever he wants (usually committing suicide) just by telling them things. He stands out as a villain among all the fiction I've consumed in that he is utterly perfect in his actions and somehow understand intimately whomever he meets. He has no superpowers and he's unarmed most of the time. He's just incredibly charismatic, extremely intelligent, and ridiculously perceptive.

I think it's worth mentioning too that, at the very beginning of the story, Johann killed the head of the hospital where Dr. Tenma works and his scummy chums while seemingly unconscious in his hospital bed recovering from his head injury, and I think he was 12 years old at that time.

On another note, it's something of a shame that while there are serial killers in One Piece, they've just mostly been backstory. I wonder if we actually got to saw the killing rampages Eustass Kid or the Caribou Brothers did, if they'd make the list.

I believe Johann Liebert is very over rated. I can't see why people find him scary. Dangerous, yes, but there is nothing scary about him, he's more like a force of nature then an actual character. Then again, Monster is a very over rated anime.

Ryūnosuke Uryū is far scarier in that regard. You take one look at him, and you want to run for the hills. In contrast, you would never be afraid of Johan. If Johan wanted you dead, you'd never know it was him, thus you would never be afraid of him.

Johan is scary for the fact that you wouldn't have any idea that he would be capable of the things he does until the moment he did them. The fact that a master mind could be the very person you're talking to and could kill you at any time without you being aware of it. That and the fact that one man is capable of doing so much damage.

That's exactly my point. You'd never have any idea he was even involved, so how can you be afraid of him?

Why would you be afraid of him if you have no idea what he would be capable of?
I am asking a serious question. I have never seen Monster, or read the manga or novel or whatever.

EDIT: I was just a bit slower than DmonHiro.

Honestly I think Junko is a lot more terrifying than Touko's alter ego re; Dangan Ronpa characters.

Genocide Jill here? Why she maybe a slasher but in the show, she didn't do jack. Not even slashed someone, all she did was babbling.

Speaking of Type-Moon, I'd put Lio Shirazumi from Kara no Kyoukai. Dude's not only kill people in gruesome ways but also like to chew on his victims.

Well, there's a perfectly good reason for that. If she were to kill someone using her modus operandi, it'd be really stupid since it would point to her immediately. And she's been using that modus operandi ever since her first kill, so she doesn't really want to change it.

Happy Halloween Maria.

Okay, Pretty Cure is frequently kid-ish, but not always. Some series have done better than others.

Heartcatch is fantastic if you get the chance, and probably the best the series has to offer up in storytelling. The villains are interesting and has a couple of appreciable twists when it comes to how some things come to an end. It's also the least "kid-ish"

On the other hand, you have series like smile and I can't recommend it unless you are just a die hard pretty cure fan.

Then again, you may just want to start off with the original Futari wa Pretty cure and then go off on whichever from there. I think it's worth it, but they are long and it is a time investment.

If I had to sum it up, Johan is adept at finding (and hitting) all of your emotional and mental weak spots. Feeling inferior to a co-worker? Mad at your nagging wife? Johan exploits those feelings by seemingly sympathizing with you, encouraging those negative feelings while making you feel like killing your co-worker or your wife is totally justified, given all that you've put up with and had to deal with. ("Of course you deserved that promotion, you've been with the company longer." That sort of stuff.) It's a very subtle, insidious way of working people, and it seems very similar to how real life serial killers supposedly operate, by sympathizing with victims to lure them in before killing them.

But like real-life serial killers, who "warn" victims away with an offhand "Oh, I'm not really that great of a guy" kind of comment, Johan manipulates people into action. Thus, it's those people who society finds at fault, rather than Johan, the man behind them. He's basically absolving himself of blame, just like real-life serial killers mentally do for themselves.

I'm surprised that Akabane from Get Backers was ignored.

As expected, the blue cure poll was far more competitive than the earlier lead cure poll. I anticipated Cure Marine and Cure Aqua doing well, but i must admit i'm very much surprised that Cure Diamond won. I personally didn't think that she would have anything much in her favor other than her intelligence and being from one of the more recent series. Cure Beauty ranking as low as she did saddens me Crying or Very sad

For the two new polls, i picked Cure Sunshine and Cure Moonlight.

Most of the yellow cures are somewhat weak or clumsy, so this fight should really be between Cure Sunshine and Cure Rosetta (though i expect Cure Peace and Shiny Luminous to get sympathy votes). Both are strong, competent characters, but Cure Sunshine still strikes me as the more impressive of the two. Considering how well Cure Diamond and Cure Heart did in previous polls, it is likely that Cure Rosetta will likewise see strong support, though.

The remaining cures poll has a lot of strong candidates in it (why no Milky Rose, though?), so it should see some very significant competition. Cure Passion and Cure Ace are likely to put up a good fight. Even so, i had no trouble picking Cure Moonlight as my favourite. She's easily the coolest and most mature of all the cures and also has some of the most impressive fighting moves (not to mention the most tragic backstory). I would be very surprised indeed if she doesn't emerge victorious in this poll.

He's terrifying to the people who do know he's involved. Most of his victims, other than Junkers, may have been unaware of how he was manipulating them, but people who understood what he had done and was still doing were rightly terrified, knowing how difficult he would be to stop (at least within the law). The fact that he didn't limit his victims to adults also plays into what makes him horrifying.

And aside from being the consummate killer, he was also quite the firebug. Smile Arsonists are pretty scary too.
