So...Lego Movie's gonna win, right? Made the most money, got the best reviews so far? Big Hero 6 has a chance, I suppose, but it'd have to outperform Lego soon.

Too bad Patema Inverted wasn't submitted, it might have had a chance to be nominated.

Don't really care much about who wins what in the other categories, but I'm psyched that Neil Patrick Harris is hosting this year. It might actually be fun to watch!

Good luck to those 2 films, if they don't make it to the Oscar, at least they put a lot of effort into it.

Gkids already submitted two films. It doesn't wanna cannibalize itself any further.

I can say they definitely did for Giovanni.

That doesn't really mean much. Heck, many in the Academy probably haven't even seen The Lego Movie because "Animation=Kids, not worthy of anything". You can actually not see all the nominees and still vote for Best Animated Feature, which is one of the many reasons the Oscars are full of crap and mean little.

Well I hate to be a debbie downer because I loved both of those films, but we all know neither will win. I think Kaguya might have a chance to get a nomination, but that's it. It was the the same with The Wind Rises. Which, even though I knew Frozen would win, I still secretly kept hoping they would say The Wind Rises. Sigh... as long as I respect the quality that's all that matters in the long run, hope one of them gets an actual nomination. Because then at the very least you can put "nominated for best animated feature" on the front of the box with some gilded feathers for good measure. That still looks impressive.

But it would be nice if, just once, an anime could win. My bets are on The Lego Movie, for the same reasons the first commenter brought up. I actually really liked that movie so I'm not entirely opposed to that.

IMHO anything from Disney Pixar is the top runner every year. Period. I'm not saying whatever they pump out is the best. Just saying they are always the heavily favored movie to win I feel. Everyone else has to outdo Disney, not the other way around. Not saying they don't make great animated movies either. Just that often it seems they win simply by being Disney rather than having the best animated feature that year.

Psycho: Well, Pixar's not in the running this year. And Disney doesn't have a Frozen-type juggernaut on their hands.

If Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea get nominations, I'd actually be pretty happy with the crop of 5, even though I know they've got no chance to win.

Yeah, Disney/Pixar usually win, but The Lego Movie was the popular crowd favorite this year, and Disney's film hasn't been released yet. Next year when we get a new (based on original concept) Pixar film, that will probably win.

I just rescanned the list and noticed Rocks in my Pockets on there! Very Happy It'd be awesome if a sensitive animated movie about depression for adults could get a nomination! Simply being nominated brings a lot of recognition to small, independent, foreign or otherwise overlooked films, which is why I'm always happy to see any anime nominated when I know they don't have a chance at winning.

Well, this is the year as any to get nominated or win. Good thing Frozen was last year.

We wondered about this too at the beginning of the year.

The final balloting yes, but for Animated Feature, the nominees are selected by a committee who supposedly watch the only 20 or so yearly submissions if they take their committee positions seriously.

Welllll, technically Kaguya has a slightly better review ratio right now seeing as it's at 100% on RottenTomatoes vs Lego Movie's 96%. Sure, Kaguya only has 40-some reviews listed, but still Wink

Lego or Big Hero 6 will probably win. The thing we should be hoping for is both Kaguya and Giovanni to get nominations. The resulting publicity and (then, hopefully) boost to DVD/BR sales would be almost as good as taking home the statue.
