Must have more Ron Perlman.

So glad a sequel is being made. I'm a big fan of kaiju, mecha & Guillermo del Toro so Pacific Rim is like heaven to me.

I hope the new one wont spend so much time on a really cheesy story between two actors that really can't act well at all.
Needs moar mecha action instead.

Been rewatching the first one and it's still a blast. Can't wait for part 2.

No, no, no, no. I got you. "Different robot", right?

Hannibal Chau shows up and is pissed at all the stuff he's lost in China and wants to create a new type of Robot to compete with the Jaegars. He makes one more versatile and "slimmer" or acrobatic.

His final comments are "I need a name for it. something that describes my nature. A leaping leopard, a trouncing tiger, a spoiler[ Jet Jaguar]

This.

Honestly, the only characters I liked in the movie were Hannibal Chau, Geiszler, and Gottlieb.

Anticipated plot: the movie starts - after a few years without Kaijūs' attacks, the world is at peace. Suddenly, a new Kaijū appears and throws the world into chaos once more. Cut to a weary Ron Perlman: "war. War never changes"

My guess is that without monsters to fight, they turn into weapons of war in a new arms race. Maybe a space monster shows up and forces everyone to band together again. And after the monster is defeated, they launch all the Jaegers into the sun to avoid making the same mistakes again (cue "White Reflection").

While you can say what you want about the movie, the fact is that it was a box office success internationally. In terms of anime-influenced movies, it certainly performed well.

So new different kinds of Kaiju alongside different types of Jaegers? I can live with that.

With how the ending of the last film wrapped everything up, how can Del Toro possibly continue with that? I guess we will have to see.

So, you're saying that movies that do financially well determines their quality? Need I remind you of Avatar? Highest grossing film of all time yet even the most die-hard fans will tell you that the story is nothing special. Its only selling point was its 3D gimmick. Are you going to tell me it's the greatest movie ever because of its financial success?

Rambo IV wasn't the box office success that most summer blockbuster films nowadays have, and its R-rating certainly didn't help it, but it's still by far the best action film we've gotten in the past 10 years.

Pacific Rim is just poorly executed and it relies solely on the gimmick of referencing major mecha anime, and anime fans will eat it up just for that very reason. That movie left so much to be desired since it had problems including pacing, monotonous battle scenes, and please explain why the mechs didn't use guns. It's not like the Kaiju had AT fields. And lastly, nothing is stupider than 'forced romance'.

I am an anime fan, but I thought it was a poor movie. Maybe the more casual anime fan might enjoy it, but as someone who watches a lot of mecha anime and tokusatsu, I found it very lacking in both departments and nothing like the series I generally watch.

The movie made most of it's profit in China, that probably tells something about the appeal. Not in America, nor Japan, but China. I'm unsure what that means though and what type of movies China generally likes.

@Guile - You are my new best friend!! I hate movies that rely too much on gimmicks to sell like The Expendables. And I'm a fan of 80's action films.
