While this is one of those things I would be a lot more pumped to see had it been released 5 years ago, I'm happy that a company that will actually dub the theme songs like Pioneer did in the LaserDisc days has picked this up, and I hope they put out great bilingual CDs like Pioneer did circa 1998.

I have no opinion as to whether or not they should use the old dub cast...

From the spoiler summaries I've read, though, I doubt the new episodes will be quite as good as the older ones, since they seem to be too much "wafer-thin space opera", as someone else here put it, and too little amusing comic filler about the private lives of space women living on Earth, which is what I liked best about the show. And there's no Kiyone... well, not the "Kiyone" I love.

Amen, brotha.

After reading the OVA3 Spoilers AND the "All-New" manga, I think that they (the writer[s]) should have at least taken a look at the manga. It's very nice, especially the 2nd volume. Anyway, as long as they stay true to OVA form and have some kick-ass fighting by the 5th or 6th episode, I think I'll live. ^__^

I like the OVA dub cast. They were fun. It was even more fun to laugh at their seiyuu names. (Seriously. http://animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=919 for example) However, it'll probably be more along the lines of the GXP cast. I hope it isn't. I still think FUNimation has a somewhat shallow voice pool.

One more thing: I hope FUNimation is good with paint.....

Goodbye consistant dub of Tenchi Muyo.

Hello disappointment.

Well, I know the old cast won't be back, FUNimation says they tried to get them for some work on GXP, and it didn't happen.

Tenchi is one of the first dubs I watched, and it grew to be a favorite of mine.

I will not be watching the OVA nor GXP dubbed, I may still buy the DVD's for the sub, but, honestly, I really just don't feel like buying it from FUNimation.

Geneon should have gotten this, in my opinion.

*watches the fans bicker Shocked* personally I saw this comming when FUNi anounced GXP and as for the Pioneer Dub I though was a bit on the Horrid side myself. I'm sorry for I'm about to upset all the Ryoko fans but she sounded to much like a Dyke than she did in the oringal version. so as for FUNi doing the Dub for OVA 3 is gonna be intresting

I saw this coming, i mean Geneon said they were not gonna dubb this one and FUNI dubbed GXP so it had to be Funimation.
Actually, yesterday, I bought the dubbed GXP volume 1 and really the only annoying voice was the main character.

I would guess that FUNi would at lest try to get the original actors, The guy who did Tenchi said he would love to do GXP but couldnt untill some time in 2004 and most of the others didn't respond or they never found them, so i would think FUNi would try again and maybe even harder sence the show revolves around them unlike the one ep they got in GXP but they have to do what they have to do, would be weird hearding the new dub, kinda like when i had to here the Pioneers version of AKIRA, are japanese actors still the same?

I've seen 2 episodes so far i think the new episodes are just as good and i have laughed much harder at these 2 episodes then any of the episodes to date.

I'm glad FUNi is getting more new properties, but I have an issue with them getting Tenchi. My issue is with the questionable dub translation that was produced for GXP (as I've said in other forums, I believe tht they did that because they were looking to get it put on Cartoon Network). I like the voices (most of 'em, 'cept for Seina). I don't think the dub is bad, but I find it hard to enjoy the show when you have to go through a bunch of crappy re-writes thoughout....

Hope the original Network cast is used and I hope that this 6 episode OVA doesn't get an 8 volume release count... unless they are going to give us 6 volumes of special features Wink (and given FUNi's track record for special features, I don't find that too likely).

Since I no longer watch dubs, FUNimation scoring OAV 3 is great news. The "Japanese Subtitles" are really accurate and even keep the Japanese honorifics in tact rather than the inconsitant and forced translations Pioneer did. Plus, we won't get Pioneers great mistakes and domestication of subs. Of course you dub fans may be SOL since FUNimation tends to over-domesticate their dubs and I doubt they get the original dub cast.

Wahoo! I've been waiting to hear this news since they announced the making of it!

I so hope they get the old cast. It would be very weird if it wasn't.

Does anyone know what the animation looks like on OVA 3? Tenchi in Tokyo had different animation than the first two (and I prefered the first two).

Why didn't Geneon get Tenchi? They just not want it?

(sorry for the million questions!) Razz

The animation is pretty good, of course since it's been 6 years since the last incarnation of Tenchi (not including GXP) so one would hope the animation would be updated as well (which it is). Not to mention that Tenchi in Tokyo was a TV series, while this is an OVA (generally speaking OVA are better animated than TV series)

I don't care. I personally can't stand the old dub cast. I'm just glad this is coming over.

Hey Tenchi, you surprised it took me this long to put in my two cents? Wink

Funimation handled GXP pretty well, like I said in the review, and I don't worry too much about how they'll handle the 3rd OAV. I would love for at least Matt K. Miller, Sherri Lynn, Ellen Gerstel, and Petrea Burchard to come back for the OAV dub, but it's far from necessary. I'm just thankful that finally I can stop holding my breath and berating people for info on the 3rd OAV. Now I just have to go camp out and wait for the DVD release.

I've seen the three episodes that have been released; they aren't bad, but I don't think they're as good as the originals. But that's how it usually works, isn't it?

BTW anyone know when the fourth episode will be released in Japan? The third is four months old now...
