2018? That's going to be a long wait but at leas there's something else to look forward to next Spring. Also hoping to see a PV of the Overture short in the future.

2018 is the aim anyway. They're still looking for investors, so details such as the proposed budget and release window (or whether there'll be a release at all, for that matter) may change.

The Overture short might be a good way to attract some attention.

Well this looks exciting. Hopefully it's "Royal Space Force" Yamaga and not "Everything after Royal Space Force" Yamaga.

Aw, come on, don't announce it now if it's not going to be out for a few years. Then it'll probably be even longer before we get it here, if at all.

A sequel to my favorite anime movie of all time? I'm willing to give it a shot, though The Wings of Honneamise doesn't really need a follow-up. Maybe a movie that just takes place in the same universe, but Shiro's story is told.

$40? That's like double of what most other high budget anime films cost, including most Ghibli outside of Kaguya. I mean, I'm happy that they're going through with it but they're gonna lose soooo much money just like they did in 1987.

$40 million?
Are they planning on using alot of CGI in this or what? Perhaps some celluloid for old times sake? Laughing

Good to hear that they are going through with this project (even though I will be 26 when it comes out). Glad to see Gainax work on a original film project again.

So it one of those eternal "Development Hell" projects? Let's hope that they can overcome the obstacles this time around.

With that $40 million, I wonder if they will break even. In the US, an animated movie with that budget could easily break even or flop.

US animated films are typically far more expensive than that, but they also have tons of marketing and they're almost never in direct competition with each other. They're going to be selling toys and merchandise so ticket sales only matter so much, but it's rare for one by a major studio to just outright fail – Epic, Turbo, Planes: F&R, whatever, they always turn a profit.

OTOH, if you adjust for inflation, the budget is probably not that much more expensive than the one for Honneamise. Though you'd have to be a real a-hole to con those investors this time around, by making them think they're betting on the next Eva.
