Awww, the Boys & Girls in Japan get all the neat stuff. Greener than Lupin's jacket with envy. Laughing

I like the bonuses from Japanese magazines, and I own quite a few of these bonus items, they make nice collectors items and sometimes you get something really nice like a dakimakura and figures (usually small ones). This is a good example of a treat for serious Otaku and importers.

Pretty cheap method for the Japanese fan to these Lupin series, pity it is DVD only, though BD probably wouldn't bring anything to the table. Only bad side is that it will take about 4 years to get the whole thing, if the magazine is a monthly subscription.

I wish we could get all of the second TV series over here on DVD. Pioneer gave up (and then conked out) long before all the episodes were released. There are even episodes that were dubbed in English we never got. The dub played fast and loose at times with the scripts, but the cast had a lot of good chemistry.

And of course they exclude Part III. I still don't understand why they always do that.

The dub of Part II is absolutely fantastic and I'm a bit sad about the fact Pioneer never put out the whole thing.

Indeed, cheap compared to buying Lupin the Box: TV & The Movie, but only a bit and these don't include Part III and 3 movies. But at nearly $600 US total, it's not a massive savings if you're willing to buy a used Lupin the Box.

The BD version of Part I looks mostly great because it's a fresh transfer, even if it took shortcuts. But Part II on BD is just kind of a wonky, fuzzy SD upscale and really disappointing as a result. I have no idea if TMS even still has film masters for the second series, or if they just have tapes.

It's not well-regarded.

penguin: I have a feeling that Part III is the most unpopular adaptation of the franchise, and even forgotten by most Japanese fans.

Closer to two years, for what it's worth:

The last 15 years of tv specials and mangas are nearly all the black sheeps if you as me.
Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone thou is very nice. A roguish 8/10 and set in 1973 by the way.
