Hmmm I wouldnt call it a sequel... alternate retelling? Spin off? The main character will be another girl unknown from the previous series. |

Spin-off?? So that means the male protagonist isn't here?! What a letdown
 ... I bet those Harem Romantic Comedy-type watchers are going to be disappointed.... Especially the patronizers of the MC.

The school has some interesting touches which wasn't covered by the main series but I'd rather have a continuation of the same characters because it has a premise and a plot.

The sales were kind of average as I recall. It didn't bomb, but not instant renewal numbers either. However, with all these things, video numbers aren't everything, if it did enough to pump up light novel and manga sales, and they need a further boost another series could be made. There's all sorts of things to consider before writing future installments off, lots of which aren't in the public domain.

Pretty unlikely. The original anime sold hardly any copies. Might mean they do another season of this if this sells well though.
They were bad enough that the author made a comment about needing higher numbers if there was going to be a chance of S2. Sure, its not like it was the worst selling show ever or something. |

For those of you quick to point out low sales of the first series, why the hell woudl they green light a spin off, Railgun is an aberration not the norm, most spin offs are all but guaranteed to be worse and sell worse than the original, so clearly if they are going to do a anime of a spin off, then there was something there.

The original anime didn't sell badly at all, which is why some questioned the author's claims. Sales weren't fantastic, but they reached a level (>5000 copies per volume) that's normally good enough to justify continuation. Source material received a decent boost, so it was a solid run overall.
The numbers didn't compel anyone to rush out and produce a sequel, but that doesn't necessarily imply failure. |
