Well, that offers fans plenty to stew over for a while.

Predictably this raises far more questions than it answers. Particularly that shot of the four adams and spears. Quite a beautiful short for eva fans though.

and as always...

who know what the %$#@ is going on again Anime hyper

But that's why I like Eva, and forever will. It answers none of the questions we want answers to and for some of us, we like it that way.

Honestly, this is why I like Eva. I know people mostly hated the third film, but I think it's fun to have a series that's so divisive. Most of the time, I prefer to understand what I'm watching, but Eva uniquely provides maximum entertainment for me, personally, the more I don't know what is going on.

The End of Evangelion was my favorite part of the series, and left me incredibly confused and disturbed. So I'm glad that Anno and his team are sticking to their guns and making sure nobody knows what the hell is going on. Looking forward to the fourth!

Well at least it's confirmed that Evangelion 3.0 is in the work.

According to the credits there was cgi, must be some of the best cgi ever made then since I thought I was just looking at hand painted backgrounds.

I think the CG are the electrical towers at ~4:00, the snow, and the water at ~5:40

Nice. Midway through, I found myself hoping a date would appear at the end. (I knew it would not, though, because there were 7 comments at the time instead of 70).

I can't tell if you typoed or if this was a joke.
But it made me laugh anyway. Anime hyper

Personally, while the intentional mysteries are still mysteries, most of the series has, through supplementary material, become a ton more clear to me. I also think that my understanding of the series in Japanese kind of helps clarify some stuff that was either vague when translated into English, or mis-interpreted. That goes for the side-material and fan-translations as well. A lot of people thought the third movie was a mess, but I had no problems understanding it.
Yes, it sometimes requires the supplementary material to truly understand the plot and characters, so if that's a flaw to you, it's a pretty big one. But once you know the stuff, it's far from horrible. =P

The third film was most definitely the one I felt most personally invested in. It probably helps that I saw it in theaters in Japan. I hope the fourth one comes out at some point while I'm in Japan again.

I like 3.0 as well, but I'm curious about what this supplementary material is that you mention. (Titles of sources are fine, even if the material is only in Japanese; no need for a detailed explanation.)

To me, it seemed like a whole movie was missing between 2 and 3 just to explain the things we see in the climax. At the very least, 3.0 is not the film 2.0's preview advertized. I was able to roll with this, though, because I assumed the fourth movie would eventually clear up whatever we need to know about it. However, if there was a homework assignment I wasn't aware of, they may not even refer to it.

The 「機密情報」 hidden data unlockable in the second Evangelion video game reveals the most and was given a ton of direct input by Anno himself. The content is completely consistent with the TV show and has been supported further by later works in the Eva universe, including the films. There are also two old guidebooks to the show that support the content directly from Anno's own mouth, though the only page I've read off of the first one was the one circulating around that showed Anno's statement that he believed the game would reveal a lot more about what was actually going on during the TV show. I own the second one, which doesn't mention the game, but still supports its content. Thus, while there is no 100% confirmation that the game's information is unquestionably canon, the amount of official support it has suggests that it is. At least, the new films have so far been consistent with it as well.

And though this is mostly fan-speculation, the preview from 2.0 seems to actually be a sneak peak into what happened between 2.0 and 3.0 while Shinji was asleep. The narrator pretty much explains what happens in the preview. =P

The short should just be one giant apology for 3.33 that completely retcons it.

It was a complete betrayal and derailment of the movie series.

I think fans would be a bit more appreciative if Anno and crew were a bit more focused on starting/finishing the final movie.

As an Eva fan, this is nice & all, but completely pointless.

So the one thing I wonder how it should be interpreted is the title of the short...

The music and title are both from Danny Boy,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Boy

"come for me" are the final words of the lyrics, spoken by a father whose son is going off to war and expects to be dead before he comes back.

I have no idea how that could actually fit in with Eva's story but it's interesting at least Smile

No artist needs to apologize for taking their work in a direction that they've chosen. The idea that an artist can "betray" their own work is baffling to me.
