What an accomplishment. This is like a miracle of a decade here. I want to see this film myself now.

Quote:
Disney Animation works (including Pixar works) have only ranked #1 three times in yearly Japanese home video sales since 1991: Beauty and the Beast in 1993 with 153,000 videotapes, Finding Nemo in 2004 with 162,000 videotapes and 1.565 million DVDs, and now Frozen this year.

A higher proportion of these were to rental stores, weren't they?

Don't forget that Spirited Away also sold millions of VHS (which went out of style very late in Japan...around the mid 2000s).

That just goes to show that you should never underestimate Japan's desire for cliche garbage.

Indeed. The fact that this movie seems to be more popular in Japan than in the west, where it's already ridiculous overrated, is still baffling to me. That and the fact that Wreck it Ralph wasn't really big in Japan at all despite the marketing attempts.
I wonder if Youkai Watch will break this record once its new movie comes out on Bluray though.

I wonder if some future anime shows whether they're aimed for mainstream or otaku will start piggybacking on this with more "sisterly" type shows.

I think it just shows the potential for animation that appeals to non-otaku crowds and features something a little less sexualized and if I'm being honest describing recent TV anime mean-spirited.

I think the opposite is true, imouto and sisterly affection is in plenty of anime in Japan already, which is probably why Frozen did better than your typical Disney movie because it relates to audiences more than pop-culture filled stuff like Wreck it Ralph which have no real appeal outside those people who think a minute long cameo of video game character somehow makes a good movie.

I thought the movie was quite fun and entertaining; I would give it a B+ grade.

although, I think Tangled was a better movie (A+).

Either one of these would be excellent movies to watch during family gatherings.

Movie is okay, but nothing special. From the Disney, Pixar movies, I still think Toy Story and Toy Story 3 are the best ones, far better than Frozen.

Oh dear, still so many butthurt (and same old comments) after all this while. At least come up with fresher comments. Well, I'll see you all again in the next article where Frozen's cumulative tops Spirited Away's.
