(Heh…good thing I had a temp document of this still, which I made just in case I didn't had time to finish and post it. Essentially the same as before.)

Valvrave's first season was pretty good and I liked some of the more mature and/or envelope-pushing content (I thought the rape scene was handled well (as it could) and didn't feel crass or exploitative, but I did not think they fully extracted what they could from it and its ramifications. They tried and were on track, but it got lost amongst the incoming developments and became something of a wasted opportunity).

Solid as it was, there was also a heavy, morose atmosphere to Valvrave which did well in heightening some of the tight drama and the world setting, but seemed to do more to drag the show down with a heavy weightiness that made it a little less fun to watch than other like shows. It's one reason why haven't been pressed to finish the second season (which isn't as good as the previous one past the half-way point). Another reason was resident Gary Stu L-Elf, whose annoyingly-"perfect" and "untouchable" character sucked a lot of fun out of the show whenever he was around (like many others in other series).

Ever since Code Geass, both Sunrise and Aniplex have been chasing that white whale, both together (VVV) and through their own efforts (Sunrise: CROSS ANGE; Aniplex: GUILTY CROWN, ALDNOAH.ZERO), and I don't see that cycle ceasing anytime soon, not until they catch it and makes waves spoiler[(of popularity and money)] all over again. As for the score, I liked it quite a bit, not just because of the compositions, but also because it was the first time (that I can recall) that Akira Senju used electric guitars in one. I always wondered what that would be like and, lo-and-behold, it turned out pretty well! Laughing

On a side note, I have been really enjoying Nick Creamer's reviews. They have been very well-written and do well in delving into and examining a show's aspects and concepts. Very good job!
