I think the number of girls is OK. At the very least, it's nowhere near the ridiculous amount of 200 characters the game has, and the fact that the focus of the story will apparently be on the main trio puts me at ease.

Just kinda sad that Kanako, my favorite girl, is apparently not going to get much attention.

Yeah, I feel the cast size is excessively large but the end of episode leaves me not too concerned about it for the moment.

I already like this one more than the original Idolmaster and if it doesn't let cast size issues drag it down and avoids any other major problems, this should easily surpass the first series for me and be one of my upper shows for the season.

Also, on the series review index the current review is listed as "episode 1" so I was initially confused and wondering why only episode 1 was being reviewed. Might want to fix it to properly reflect what it's covering.

I liked the original iDOLM@STER as a series of standalone stories but didn't feel it worked as a series. Each time you'd be introduced to a character and grow to like them and then they'd disappear and not be seen for ages. Hopefully the stronger focus on a few characters will make this series more enjoyable as a whole for me.[/quote]

I'm really surprised this was picked up for episode reviews. I thought it wouldn't have anywhere near enough popularity to justify it.

But as an iDOLM@STER fan, I'm not complaining.

An A+ episode for me personally. They really did a fantastic job of building up the tension and Mio looked like she was going to have a panic attack. I just cheered when they landed on the stage.

I'm glad it's confirmed for 2 cours, 2 cours means A-1 can deliver and show me Nina at some point in the series. Please don't disappoint me.

Aniplex of America who will almost certainly be doing some sort of overpriced Western release for this is a major sponsor for Anime News Network. I'd be far more surprised if it hadn't been. It's kind of like expecting a Funimation licensed title not to get any sort of coverage here. Also since when isn't iDOLM@STER popular?

It's not licensed by AoA. Aniplex is not even the listed publisher for it on Daisuki (rather, it's Bandai Namco Games).

I enjoyed this episode Anzu's one of my favorite girls due to her being so slothful and lazy and often times "idol anime" have this whole idea of the burning passionate characters who want to strive for their dreams.

The fact that Anzu simply wants to not work and live of royalties is to me a genius character choice one of those "why didn't they think of this earlier" type of moments for me at least. Also Ranko almost forgetting her umbrella was a little character moment that showed ever so slightly that her "mask can slip.

I meant to mention the umbrella moment and completely forgot - thanks for pointing it out, Parsifal24! It's right up there with Riku forgetting her cat schtick, and it's those little snatches of "otherness" that's really making the show for me.

I'm enjoying this show far more than I expected, and that's a good thing. Though I would love it if they gave more depth to some of the girls.

After ep 4 I finally decided to drop the series, I like the 3 main characters but all the other are so unbelievable annoying specialy the poser neko-girl and the tall one with the weird way of talk. (didn't even bother to learns their names)
Too bad, I had high hopes for this season

I play the game and though I haven't been able to watch the anime, I've been worried about what would happen with the anime. Before the anime, the only "character these girls has were written down as statistics in their game profile, characterized in their voice acting/script (which tend to only exist for the sake of instruction and player praising), or even shown in their profile picture or briefly cliched for their 4koma appearances. Having a story like this gives room for some of the general characters to develop, but other characters, such as Miku and Anzu, seem so far from saving, I'm a little afraid. They exist as the "girl trying to be a catgirl, except she goes OOC whenever fish, which she doesn't like, is mentioned" and the "I'm too lazy to do anything" anti-types, but nothing more in the game. Miku is one of my favorite girls, design-wise, so I'm just afraid they won't do anything with her character except further the cliche... and as much as I dislike Anzu, I still want her developed better so the anime can stick to some sort of quality writing for its genre.

It helps that Love Laika's dancing is gorgeously animated.

It was beautifully animated. I thoroughly enjoyed it as well, much more than the (to me, jarring) CG routines in Love Live. I understand the reason for CG dance sequences (fully animating those sequences with hand drawn animation would have been prohibitively expensive), but this hand drawn sequence was just so much more satisfying and better looking. The obvious shortcut being, that neither Love Laika's nor New Generation's routines were presented in their entirety. Although I prefer the way it was handled to the alternative of mixing in a lot of pan and scan shots.

The animation as a whole has been very high quality. Even tiny details, like the movement of their shoelaces (in the second or third episode, when they are rehearsing for Mika's concert) were well animated.

Cinderella Girls proves with its sixth episode that it goes where other idol shows only hint at. Success isn't assured and tempers and egos flare, and a perfect performance to an appreciative audience is by no means a guarantee.

That comment makes me think that you probably have not seen the original Idolm@ster series or the Wake Up Girls movie and subsequent series. The characters in both those series did not enjoy instant success either. Wake Up Girls in particular emphasized the many and various difficulties and hardships they faced.

A nice contrast is also made between the slightly older Minami and Anya and the main trio

I'm not sure if you were referring only to Minami as being slightly older (she is 19 and is a college student), because Anastasia is the same age as both Rin and Mio - 15. Uzuki is 17. Official Site Character Page

The Love Laika girls definitely handled their interview more professionally as well. I agree that it seems likely that the older Minami was the reason. I'm sure she took the initiative of suggesting to Anastasia to practice beforehand, although I imagine that Anastasia was very receptive to the idea since she is self-conscious about her Japanese.

I'm really enjoying the show as a whole and in particular how it has been keeping the focus on Uzuki, Rin and Mio to give them the time to develop. I personally hope that continues, although with such a large group, it seems likely that the focus will eventually shift.
