I think this is cool news.

When I read comics along time ago (Had to quite because I couldn't afford both my comics and my anime/manga), I read Witchblade constantly, and I still have alot of those comics (Including the first issue, which is very old now).

Sara is a great character, and I hope that she gets replaced with an equally great character.

I am assuming that this will mean a completely new plot, unlike that of the comics, about a new witchblade bearer.

In any case, I can't wait to see it now.

I don't think so, I think that was just Palisades attempting to do action figures in the Timm style.

I'm currious if they'd be able to do action figures for this series...

As someone who has read the comic book, I'm actually rather dissapointed. An anime version would be awesome, but I don't feel they need to change the main character, nor make a manga version.

Really dissapointed too because the witchblade comic has amazing art, and I just for some reason am very pessimistic about the style it'll be in when it becomes "Japan-ized".

I think I know what it feels like now to be a fan of something about to become Americanized.

I guess the appropriate saying is "what goes around comes around".

I'm not a big fan of characters being changed for different audiences, but it probably won't be that bad. The new character will likely still resemble the original for the most part since "Japanese" characters in anime usually look American. That is unless they completely overhall her whole character concept.

It still kind of bugs me. I don't like it when things are changed for different countries (whether it be a Japanese person becoming American or an American becoming Japanese). It shows an emphasis on generating money over creating art.

I personally love this idea. I was a loyal Witchblade fan a while back. I stopped reading when Michael Turner & Christina Z. jumped ship.

I really don’t see how they could ruin the series. I mean, they already did a live action version that was on the Turner Network, so what’s there to ruin? Razz

Seriously though, I think it’s a great idea and I can’t wait to see it.

BTW, it’s nice to see that Jim McLauchlin enjoys his new job. I miss his witty responses in “Magic Words” on Wizard Magazine.

Wasn't part of the "backstory" of Witchblade is that it was beared by various women? Anne Bonny and Joan D'Arc were noted by Kenneth Irons as bearers of the Witchblade (supposedly).

I recall in Witchblade #1, Irons has a room where Portraits and Statues of the various weilders hang and sit. One of the Portraits was garbed in Samurai Armor.

But I have no clue if this was covered in Tales of Witchblade comic. I kinda stepped off after the Mayan Witchblade story. (#8?). Maybe their gonna cover a past Japanese Witchblade during the Warring States period??

Yeah, alot of the backstory is that, like The Darkness (which would make an awesome anime in itself), The Witchblade has had many bearers since its creation. Instead of seeing this as taking Sara's story and bastardizing it, think of it as just another link in the chain.

Also, I think that Witchblade went downhill alot after Michael and Christina left, and alot of people stopped reading.

I also enjoyed Jim's witty retorts in Magic Word's, unfortunatly, I havn't read Wizard in years, so, I'm not sure whats going on there anymore.

Back on the subject of Witchblade, if I remember correctly, there was a female that used it as Samurai Armor and a sword. The other woman was Joan Of Arc, by the way (Thats if I remember correctly, I could get the issue out, but, its been packed away deeply for some years and that would take a couple of hours).

I haven't seen the live-action version, but from that, I'm guessing it can't be very good.

As a fan of Witchblade and Darkness from the beginning and even meeting Dutch people that have also worked on the comic along with reading the comics, owning a limited editionbox set for the first 4 volumes and having seen the TV series, I don't think it'll be a bad idea of using the Witchblade and adding a new wearer for the Witchblade, however I do will be disappointed if they just gave her a Japanese look and still call her Sara Pezzini, now that would be a very bad and sad thing, for that will only show how much creativity they lack and not be worthy of tempering with the Witchblade story.

I don't think it'll come to that and that it will just be a new wearer in total, which would be cool, I didn't mind reading about the other wearer's from the passed even though there's only very little references towards them they use all the "fighter's" in history with the above samples given, Jeanne D'Arc etc., that way if you know about those, you kinda can imagine how things for them would have gone.
So I would encourage them to show us a potrait of a female Samurai like warrior from the Japanese history that would've been / has been a Witchblade wearer.

What I do hope to see is all the main forces into play, that includes the Darkness and Angelus, as I find, much can be done with all those 3 forces and would be a very good ingrediant-mix for a kick ass Anime series about the Witchblade, so yes please Gonzo show us your stuff, we know you'll do your best as I'm thinking if your selecting a project like this people at Gonzo must be Witchblade-fans themselves so I have quite the confidence they will not disappoint the already huge fangroup TopCow, Michael, Christina, Jonathon, D-Tron and all others who have worked on those magnificent series have already established.

D.

PS, reading the article a couple of times more, I'm thinking this will be very Cyberpunk, which then would be no problem being a Japanese Police women and hell maybe she'll have some Flashback of Sara Pezzini like Sara had gotten about Jeanne D'Arc and that would pretty much take care of the problem most people would have with it.
