For all of the people so massively butthurt about Frozen winning last year, it must be that much worse this time.

Honestly, I'd have to say that's undeserved. It was a mediocre film. There were very few characters that were likable and it had a predictable twist at the end.

Where's Kanye when you need him? Gah! So anticlimactic. The main drama was if any of the 2 smaller films could usurp HTTYD2, that was the real story. Instead they picked the other Hollywood cartoon that got mediocre reviews and audiences came out of theatres going "Meh, it was okay."

Not surprised. (I didn't watched the Oscars but I knew ANN would announced the winner for animated feature)

I liked Big Hero 6 but other than the 'big brother moments' between Hiro and Baymax, its one of the most typical superhero films. If it was more Lilo & Stitch in terms of the importance of non nuclear families, then it would have been fine. For art's sake, I wanted Song of the Sea to win but for popularity sake, I wanted How to Train Your Dragon 2 to take it.

Also, a film using Japanese culture as background design beats an actual Japanese animation; not only does the Academy not care about non-Disney animation but they believe in weird coincidences!

It would've been nice if the BH 6 people thanked the actual Japanese animators who inspired their movie, in the speech. Just saying. Rolling Eyes

Can we just rename the best animated feature award to the Disney toy commercial award? I'd be more fitting.

Of course, being a Ghibli fan I wanted Kaguya to win. But the film that really deserved the Oscar was Song of the Sea. I enjoyed Big Hero 6, but will never be convinced it was better than "Song".

I can't believe big hero 6 won.
I was expecting Kaguya, Dragons 2 or Song of the sea to win over big hero 6 since I felt they were much better films and deserved it a lot more.
I'm very disappointed in the academy's decision.

Wow... I suppose that I'm ill-positioned to say anything as I have not seen any of the nominees (I just don't get to the picture show much), but goddamn, that seems like some real bullshit. (Plenty of the voters are probably little better positioned) How To Tame Your Dragon 2 looks obviously more technically impressive and Song of the Sea or The Tale of Princess Kaguya are obviously more artistically ambitious with the latter also being a swan song. I can't help but be morbidly curious what went on in their pale, addled minds as they voted.

Oh well, it's just the Oscars confirming what they are: Total bullshit. A passing survey of Twitter indicates that Neil Patrick Harris is systematically destroying the peculiar goodwill that he's accrued. Damned fine job, Oscars.

Me? I played some Civilization V.

As usual Hollywood just kind of went with the safe Disney pick. Though given what I've learned about how little the academy respects let alone knows about animation it most likely just won it by default cause they couldn't be bothered and there's little else too it. It was pretty much always going to be between that and the other recognizable name in Dreamworks with HTTYD2.

Don't understand how a movie that takes place in "San Fransokyo" can trump movies with more creative effort like Kaguya and Song. Would have preferred Kaguya, but either of those two winning would have been fine by me.

Award shows are not about acknowledging creativity. It's about marketing.

Well I figured it would win and low and behold it does. Meh, not surprised. You can pick the winner in this category with 90% accuracy anymore. No use getting upset though. Doubt this will change anytime soon. I'll just go back to petting my kitten.

True that... seriously no one in this film could actually pronounce Hiro's name correctly except Honey Lemon.
