I think it's a losing battle to try to make live-action adaptations of Dragon Ball Z especially when you're using modern film-making cliches.

And the only reason this is better than Dragon Ball Evolution, which isn't saying much at all, is because we didn't have to sit through 80+ minutes of it.

Co-incidentally, Team Four Star recently put out their abridged version of History of Trunks, so there's a bit of focus on it right now. Which is not surprising, as it has always been the best part of the Dragonball franchise.

Yeah, but that's not saying much.

The History of Trunks is the single best part of DBZ (Androids 17 and 18 are two of my favorite anime villains ever), and I think it alone would make a fantastic film. Overall, this film is very well-made, though I wish it was told more like a standalone story so that people unfamiliar with the series could understand it.
