This surprised me. Slam Dunk is about the only one on that list that COULD be done well with good actors.

Any person, who will decide that a live-action, based on One Piece or JoJo is a good idea, should be put into asylum, to be honest.

Kind of ironic that they bring up Slam Dunk, since Kung Fu Dunk was almost an official adaptation until the lawyers came in. Rolling Eyes Also, Pirates of the Caribbean's monsters do remind me of the ones in One Piece. Just saying...Oh, and isn't Pacific Rim essentially a live-action Mazinger?

Participants cited the live-action Dragon Ball adaptation as why they definitely don't want Evangelion turned into a live-action film.

Oh, c'mon, what's wrong with DB: E? Rolling Eyes

Oh, and The Covenant is sort of a bootleg live-action Jojo. And while Chronicle takes most of its inspiration from Akira, that liquor store robbery is kinda Jojo-esque. Oh, and Magneto totally copied Hol Horse in X-Men: DOFP with that magic bullet scene. Rolling Eyes

Wouldn't Slam Dunk, or really any sports anime, be extremely easy to make into a live-action adaptation?

I'd choose something like, say, Gundam (G-Saviour? What's that?). Mazinger made sense as a choice. Evangelion made sense as a choice.

Sometimes it's hard to tell what will work in real life and what won't, though. I just saw that new live-action Lupin III movie and it was pretty good.

I think Evangelion could work as a 3D CGI work like the Project Dwango short (I think that's what the thing was called) which was really cool. Probably not as live-action though. A lot of live-action based on anime/manga aren't very good anyways (especially those from Hollywood) in my opinion.

Better than Japan's attempts: Space Brothers, 009-1, Kiki's Delivery Service, Negima, Sailor Moon, Hell Girl, etc.

Besides, Hollywood doesn't need to adapt anime/manga, they can make their own: ideas are free and universal. Cowboy Bebop...we got Firefly and now Gaurdians of the Galaxy; mecha...Pacific Rim and Transformers; magical girl...Sucker Punch, sure why not. Another...ohh, Final Destination.

Could you image a live action Jojo's Bizarre Adventure film. It would be so bad, it would bypass being so bad it's good, right back to bad and then around to so bad it's a masterpiece.

Tnk: Kiki seems ok. I haven't seen the adaptation, but production-wise, it looks better than Teen Witch and The Worst Witch, anyway. Rolling Eyes As for Negima, an 'authentic' live-action version of that story would be creepy and uncomfortable, period. Though maybe Jack Black can still pull it off. Wink

Um, Firefly is Bebop. And Outlaw Star. Just saying. Rolling Eyes

Hollywood's track record with sports movies isn't exactly great... but I think it has more to do with the casting. Nobody is willing to hand over their fav characters to Hollywood casting agents. It all sounds disastrous to me.

All women. Laughing

I'd be more interested in a Kuroko live-action. I think that would be damn entertaining.

I for some reason imagine Jack Black to play Luffy in a live action OP film.

Hm, it's interesting for a sports show to have all women quotes.

I am fine with this list. Odd for a sports show, but having not seen it I can't fully comment on what elements wouldn't translate well.

I heard that Oda was offered an option for a live-action One Piece movie, but he denied permission.

If that's true, then that's just another reason why I love One Piece.

Does anyone know what ever became of that lawsuit? I'd imagine it'd have to be settled by now - and ADV's screwy countdown timer has me wondering if they haven't actually gotten Evangelion: Evolution into production.
