This style of anime reminds me more of American animation. Also, 56 books is a lot and certain has made it successful.

Always found the Zorori series to be pretty charming. It's like a cross between Lupin III and Darkwing Duck.

I actually see it as closer to the art style I commonly see on packaging for Japanese groceries, especially those aimed at kids, like chips and candy. Then again, maybe this book series was an influence on those. American animation, for instance, will almost always have a winking eye be the same color as the character's skin/fur/scales/whatever their outer covering is made of and will rarely have teeth drawn in that way: If it's not a realistic look, the teeth will be drawn predominantly as either a bunch of crisscrossing window-like lines or a single horizontal line. Of course, I'd say this style was influenced, in turn, by Doraemon and the works of Osamu Tezuka. Then again, THOSE two were influenced by Disney. |
