All those clips from the preceding stuff makes me ask, sarcastically, "Is recycled GitS better than no GitS at all?" Sad I wish they'd try making something out of the Man-Machine Interface manga. Although parts of it were confusing as hell, at least it was more original than this treadmill GitS seems to be on.

I will say I thought the second episode of Arise was pretty good. For my two bits, the first one not so much. Now I'm hoping and waiting for the dubs of the third and fourth to come up on Funi.

Very disappointed that it is in the same style that Arise was. Hate how "immature" the characters look in them compared to their SAC counterparts. For me, Arise just doesn't really exist (though I did enjoy the 4th episode of the series).

Was the song that plays in the trailer (not the Cornelius sing-song one for the Arise clip) on the Arise soundtrack? I really like it. Foreboding piece.

Great montage of the history of GITS and I can't wait for the movie. Too bad everyone outside Japan isn't gonna see this till the end of the year at the earliest.

Probably not gonna happen unless they tone down all the fanservice. Besides, parts of Man-Machine Interface were already adapted in some episodes of SAC.

Oh please. You talk about Arise like it's an ecchi harem show. The characters are "immature" because that's the point. The entire premise of Arise is to show how Section 9 came to be.

Uh... no, not quite. Not sure where you get off saying I'm talking like it's an ecchi harem, but that's a bit of a strong misunderstanding there, mate. While I'm aware at how Arise is supposed to showcase how everything fell into place, there's still too many problems to bring the team up to the level they are at when Stand Alone Complex takes place. They're two completely different atmospheres, which is what bothers me with the series (despite being the attempt of the show). Yes, they're "immature" because they're not fully developed, but take someone like Togusa for example. The lazy/slouching posture and attitude he carries doesn't jive at all with the explanations the Major gave for rescuing him from the police in the movies or the show. But, I digress.

You may be a fan of this series where as I am not. Let's just leave it at that.

There's a flavor for everyone, it seems.

Me, I'd rather see either a third Oshii movie come to be, or failing that, one that sticks closer to Shirow's earlier (pre Man-Machine Interface) art style. I saw "New Dominion Tank Police" recently, and thought the character designs in that captured the look well.

I enjoyed seasons one and two of Ghost in the Shell and would like for a season 3 of the TV anime, with the same director and cast if possible!

of course I have no idea if any of the manga is left seeing as I have never read any of it.

Agree with the recycling and original comments. This clip is like an extension of Arise in that they have to rely on call outs to the first movie (and other parts of the franchise) because they either lack ideas or courage to break new ground. Its like J.J. Abrams Syndrome with Leonard Nimoy (may he RIP) and new Star Trek's inability to boldly go where it hasn't before. So yea, not going to be happy if they are just going to recycle bits and pieces of its own past, because that's what goes for clever and original in some circles.

I sincerely hope that they surprise me and blow me away with this movie, but my expectations after Arise are fairly low.

Did anyone else look at the promo poster of the crew in their suits and immediately think of Gantz?

Kind of ironic to imply it's Echi, considering parts of the original Manga were pretty much softcore porn.

@Deacon Blues, apologies for my earlier comment, but saying "something doesn't really exist" is something I would only say about the absolute worst of the worst. Arise may not be that good, but it's also not so bad that should we pretend like it was never made in the first place. Also, Shirow himself has said he doesn't consider any of anime versions of GITS to be the "definitive"/true version of GITS, so I don't think it's an issue that the personalities of characters don't exactly match how they were in the movies or SAC.

Sadly, several of the famous scenes from the first movie have basically turned into tropes for every subsequent GITS anime. Motoko jumping off something and turning on the opto-cam while she's falling, having her head grabbed by the face, etc. are now standard tropes in GITS. We saw it in SAC and Arise and I bet we'll see it in the movie, for better or worse.

Yeah, I really liked that episode. And episode four was quite good too.

Heh, yeah, I think a ton of us would love a reunion season of SAC Smile

To me SAC made this one truly a thing, because they did it so damn well and memorable on most of the occasions they used it (like at the end of the first ep of 2nd Gig with the perfect music). Smile
