One of my favorite characters from 5d's will appear in this arc? Nice. I have to say that the current story arc for Yugioh Arc-V is one of my favorites so far since the Dark Signer Arc from 5d's.

I haven't watched Yu-Gi-Oh in years but this is cool. 5ds was the last season I watched (and even then I didn't finish the Dark Signer arc). Didn't know these two series took place in the same universe.

That means Arc-V and 5ds could be either canon or the Jack and Crow time traveled.

Ok so if Jack Atlus and Crow are in V-Arc that means it's canon from 5d but it states it takes place after Zexal......wtf?!?,?

I guess running all these Yu-Gi-Oh series for so long and capitalizing on the card game's success might have the show writers losing track of the franchise's continuity at times.

As someone currently watching Arc-V, I'll explain the continuity mess
in Arc-V , there are 4 different dimensions
Fusion (Duel Academia from GX has been shown)
XYZ (Heartland has been shown to be destroyed by an invasion from Academia)
Synchro (not shown yet)
Standard (Where the show takes place)
So it's possible they could show up in the Synchro dimension. Specially since one of the main characters going there is a very real possiblity right now

HA?! This is so awesome! I'm really happy that Arc V are bringing in these characters. Though, Yami Yugi is all who I really care about. Well, luckily I have the upcoming movie for that xD

Time to watch 5D's.

P.S. Anyone know if there are any filler-ey episodes or mini-arcs that have no plot relevance? I'd like to skip those kinds of things if possible.

The movie Bond Beyond Time confirmed that Duel Monsters, GX and 5D's take place in the same timeline. ZEXAL some cameos of Duel Monsters and GX monsters, and ARC-V is shown to have some parallels to each series.

However, it's complicated, since Duel Monsters, GX and 5D's have to be take place in Standard. While Heartland City appears in the Xyz Dimension, so does the Duel Academia in the Fusion Dimension. It's very possible that these are alternate dimension counterparts from the Standard versions, since it is confirmed that Duel Monsters and GX and 5D's are from the same dimension.

Some of your explanation is wrong. Bonds Beyond Time confirmed that Duel Monsters, GX and 5D's are from the same timeline, that means they have to be from the same dimension, Standard. GX had Ritual Summoning, and 5D's had Fusion Summoning, not only just Fusion Summoning and Synchro Summoning, respectively. Even ZEXAL had Fusion and Ritual Summonings, and the three alternate Dimensions have only their own Special Summonings, that's why they are called that. ZEXAL had also statues of monsters from Duel Monsters and GX, all of them considered to be iconic and famous. So, even ZEXAL could have taken place in Standard as well. So we can assume that Academia and Heartland City in ARC-V are alternate versions.

Remember that the dimensions weren't always split.
While DM, GX, and 5D's were all Standard originally, the dimension split could have separated them all.

GX had the concept of 12 or 13 dimensions, already. However, it might be possible that Standard was split into 4-5 dimensions. I'm pretty sure that the Ritual Dimension (if we ever get that) will be based of Duel Monsters, since it has the highest number of Ritual players (Atem, Kaiba, Jonouchi, Pegasus, Keith, Masks of Light and Darkness, Noah, Big Five, Dartz).
