How come most anime games are only released on digital platforms? Is it because game companies find it too risky to release these games for retail?

Pretty much, unfortunately (Wish it at least got a limited physical copy). I'm more surprised that we get some of these games to begin with. I was absolutely shocked when we started to get One Piece games again.

Yup. Its just too risky for a niche product like this.

The problem is as this is a full retail game, the file size will be quite large (as what happened with Phoenix Wright: Dual Destines) and probably force me to upgrade my SD card for it.

Atlus is releasing a known not-so-great game physically on Vita and PS3 called Lost Dimension. I know AoT 3DS would sell better than that, so I have to ask: how bad does this game have to be for it to get a stealth eShop-only release?

Well unless this title is a AAA title like Call of Duty, Battlefield, or Assassin's Creed then this particular title will not get a physical release. I agreed with the other users on this thread and understand why.

You're acting like the Vita hasn't had download-only games. The Sword Art Online game, Soul Sacrifice Delta, and Senran Kagura Bon Appetit! were all download-only. Sure a physical copy is preferred, but I'll take something over nothing.

That's exactly why I'm mentioning it. Lost Dimension could have been a PSN-exclusive, but it's getting a retail release even though the game is destined to obscurity. Attack on Titan is significantly higher profile, yet they're doing a rather low-key eShop exclusive. Publishers do that if they're not convinced of a title's selling potential or its quality. Given the brand and the the media released for it, I'm leaning towards the latter.

AoT is too popular. Thus they should get a AAA game made for it with a open world so vast and hundred of hours worth of gameplay. Wish they would, I would respectfully quit life and play it with MGSV, Witcher3, and FFXV.

Burning a disk is simply a cheaper process than manufacturing microSD sized game cartridges, Obscure ps3 titles get physical releases because burning a disk is almost negligible in costs as long as a "sufficient amount" gets into the hands of a buyer.

Lost Dimension is also on PS Vita, which uses "microSD sized game cartridges." It's getting a physical release in North America on that platform too.

If it was a physical release it wouldn't be translated. Too much money.

I'm just surprised we got it to be honest. I never thought we'd get to play the game.

The Titan hype train has many more stops in its popularity.

If this is digital-only and gets rated M, the majority of the fanbase will be blocked from downloading it in the eShop.

Very logical, Atlus. Rolling Eyes
