I'm so hyped for Oingo and Boingo. Their chapters are among the most fun in Part 3.

The sound design and music continue to make this adaptation great. N'Doul's the least interesting chapter of the Egypt Arc, but even if I knew what was going to happen, I was still enthralled.

So why is it not ok to say Oingo Boingo when it's clearly printed on the page and can clearly be heard in the dialog, but it's fine to use Zenyatta Mondatta, which is a Police title? I will never understand copyright law. And did they pick that because of "Behind My Camel" on the album? Smile

They should have made the brothers' names Richard and Danny, and the book title Dead Man's Party, since titles are fair game. Smile

It's not so much about copyright law as "How likely is this person/group I'm referencing likely to sue my ass into oblivion?", which can be quite a problem.

Some people are more open to that kind of stuff than others. Sometimes the licensors play it safe just in case.

Good review Hope, I'm glad to see you're still enjoying Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (one of my favorite manga ever).

With any luck, we'll get to Diamond is Unbreakable after this, one of my favorite parts. It's Some Kind of Magic (not a reference for Part 4, but Part 4 does love its Queen references).

But wouldn't a litigious artist be as likely to sue over their name written in the artwork (not to mention spoken) as they would in subtitles?

Yeah, it was really jarring to see the translators' copyright-hopping with the next round of baddies, naming the brothers Zenyatta and Mondatta instead of Oingo and Boingo. Strangely, I have no recollection of being upset over or even really noticing the name changes in the subtitles of earlier episodes. (Maybe it helps that I have no little-to-no familiarity with the original material or the musical artists that are being referenced.) I guess it has to do with how I'm more of a visual than aural learner; when I saw Oingo Boing printed so clearly on the brothers' "manga" while completely different names were being used, I rewinded a few times just to make sure I was hearing right. Ugh.

This particular name choice was done by Viz years ago with their release of the Stardust Crusaders portion of the manga (which they have recently reprinted and released Digitally, for those who enjoy that sort of thing).

One reference can be as good as another in this situation I suppose.

Just don't take away my Queen references next season...

Did they edit the image of the manga cover?

They did, but of course, it's much easier when you're already editing text in manga as is.

I... actually thought this was more solid than the first one. Big part is for the music who was clearly covering the low animation this had (if they don't have that much budget I hope they can get used to the good tricks and pacing they domined so well in the first two parts to at least look good). And I didn't like Iggy in the first episode (a simple straight fart! so funny~!) but in this he and Jotaro bounce off each other (I wasn't expecting it between those two) and *hides in a trash can* I thought all their interactions were funny in both sides.

And the serious part, the music was nice so I guess that was pulling me into, but it's just the same 'licking Dio's foot's perfection' again, and I'm tired of it. If Dio was great in the first season is because he did stuff and showed his great personality, here so far he only poses stylishly and says how evil and great he is without doing anything else in 26 episodes. I hope when he finally shows up he pays off, but so far Dio's heart for me will always be the one of the first 3 episodes of the first part.

And Jotaro without his hat looks so cool his hair cannot be crushed by the hat~~

They didn't do anything to alter the cover, it still says "Oingo Boingo" despite the subtitles reading "Zenyatta Mondatta".

^We were talking about the printed Viz edition of the JoJo manga, not the manga shown in the anime (which I was talking about in my original post bringing up the topic).

Ah, then you don't remember their run-in with Dan of Steel, which is definitely not what he was actually saying.

I mean, relatively serious or conventional. The "ridiculous bar" is really high for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Really, REALLY high.
