I liked how the ground crew just keeps doing their stuff in the hangar background and seem to pay no attention to the dancing stewardesses even when they have their pom-poms. It made me wonder if some of those scenes were composited, and the girls weren't really there at all but dancing on some sound-stage.

It is possible that it was shot after many many takes and that the hanger was not completely closed for shooting. Hence, people who work there would just be doing their jobs as they're supposed to be doing, perhaps looking over during the first few takes and losing interest after that.
It's kind of like the boy who covers his ears right before the villain pulls out the gun in North by Northwest: That scene was shot in an actual dining area near Mount Rushmore, and the diners there were real. After the actors performed take after take after take, the boy was clearly sick of hearing the gunshot. |
