PBS and History Channel should take note.

Shocked

...I'd love to check the brainstorm session that led to this idea...

Next they should have models strip down & reassemble modern military hardware while stripping off themselves.

I imagine it would just be a group of middle aged men looking at model casting photos while desperately trying not to wank till after the meeting's over.

Insert cheap joke about how military otaku are more turned on by the girls with their armor on than without it here. Rolling Eyes

With all due respect -- and no disrespect intended -- just what is so interesting about the article?

Oh well using the attractive girls to get people to learn history (I guess eye candy does really work). It's not only Japan that used this, I remember this show I used to watch on Spike TV and it involve using hot models to help teach guys interesting and trivial facts.

BTW, I didn't know I had to put more detail in my post (since past interest articles I left comment on, I didn't have any issue with that).

Again, with no disrespect intended, one-liners are discouraged. Granted, that rule is usually invoked in regard to lists; however, it cannot hurt to add a sentence (or even two!) outlining your reasoning.

44 lbs? How can these lovely ladies strip out of the armor? The only way I can see that happening if there are crews on set to do so as they aren't exactly bodybuilders or MMA fighters. It seems that it could be a nice series though.

Nothing like learning about the history of historical Japanese armor while enjoying a nice little bonus of beach fashion at the end. Smile

I think the point nobahn is making is that you in particular tend to go to every single news article just to post "Oh, OK, this is interesting" or "Oh, that's surprising", which in itself isn't a bad thing, but the fact that you do it all the time and that it doesn't add anything to the discussion makes it seem like a pointless way to raise your post-count or something. It's just an encouragement to say "I think this is interresting because..." or "I have this opinion about this particular topic because...". You're perfectly capable of articulating such opinions in other threads (and you proved that here). What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to post in every single article, and that if you can't add more than "Thanks, that's interesting", then there's really not much point in commenting at all.

44lb for the whole suit means that most of the individual parts probably aren't too bad, and the weight of any well made suit of armour is going to be reasonably evenly distributed over the body to allow the wearer to still fight in it (even full plate was typically designed to let the wearer retain a good amount of movement without toppling over due to poor weight distribution).

So at a guess the heaviest individual part will probably be something like the front/back chest plates at 10-15lb each, which isn't much more than many young babies.

The trick to putting armour etc on is/was from memory largely doing it in the right order to keep your weight distributed evenly. and make sure everything was seated correctly

On the topic of the article, it's an odd one but fairly amusing to imagine, and I suspect probably gets attention from people who might not otherwise be interested in learning about the armour/time period.

The first episode of Yoroi Bijo (Armor Beauties) will air on Friday night at 2:30 a.m. (technically, Saturday) and will star Takasaki in Date Masamune's armor. She'll discuss historical aspects about the warlord's battle regalia and give information about the owner.

Is there any place where one can watch this stuff? I'm a huge Date Masamune fan and this made me all excited, even if I don't care about the gravure aspect. At least the photos so far seem rather tame, so there's a good chance that I would be able to enjoy it, given how passionate I am for Sengoku stuff

While I don't know how well the Japanese economy is doing overall, something brings in roughly $725 million annually probably does help.

Also, this form of fandom might help the schooling system since education is important and learning about various histories (local, national, and world) is somewhat of a common class in many schools.
