Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei 16 is probably going to sell more than 15 at the end of the year since it only came out on May 9th.

No new normal SAO vol in the first half?

Nah, Index is still number 1. Sure it doesn't sell as much as it used to but in return it has gained a lot more. For starters, 150k copies sold is still incredibly good putting Index in the top ranks of LN series. Secondly, Index has 35+ volumes. 35+!!!! Mahouka only has less than half of that at the moment with 16. Index has been running for 11+ years, while Mahouka only has been running for 4 years now. It's also important to note how stable Index's sales have been for a while. It's almost always avging at least 150k now if not a bit more. This is the result of having a loyal and strong fanbase 11 years in the making. Can you say if Mahouka will still be running 6 years from now, and still sell the amount it's selling?

Mahouka average vol sales are high than Index. Mahouka won't have 35 volumes. It will probably ends at around 20~ something based on where the story is going. It will continue to out sell 200K very vol. Mahouka's story is actually getting better and better ever vol. The Ancient City Insurrection Arc and Yotsuba Succession Arc are so good based on my limited Japanese knowledge and google translate.

Top rank LN right now is SAO and Mahouka. They just rewrite SOA vol 1 and vol 2 story into many more vols, it said 300k+ lol

Guys, why the bickering? All this Mahouka vs Index fighting is a waste of time; I didn't even know it was a thing.

The only volume that Index released this year made it to the top 10. Popularity wise, it is stable which is surprising considering that its been 4 years since the last anime series. Its not going anywhere. I'd even say that the story is in a low point compared to last year and its still selling about the same (remember that this is really Volume 36).

Props to SAO and Mahouka though. SAO is as popular as ever thanks to the SAOII anime that finished at the end of last year. Mahouka is almost due for a Season 2 announcement in the coming months.

In regards to which series is number 1 then isn't it SAO? Both in total sales wise over the franchise's run and this first half of the years results?

The one thing that Index has going for it is that it is the best performing LN series in the Kono LN ga Sugoi! rankings. Not that it ranks first but in all of the polls it flat out beats SAO and Mahouka (the 2015 rankings were quite impressive). Though I feel that this year it will be outshined by at least Mahouka.

I'd agree, but then again I thought NT4 was really good and apparently it didn't sell well.

Yeah Index has done incredibly well in that. Pretty sure one year it had best LN, best illustrator, and the top 3 characters. I'm not sure if mahouka has broken top 10.

Hope they both continue to do well (and get more anime seasons).

I'm not sure if I should be positively surprised or negatively surprised that Tokyo Ravens made it in the last position of the ranking

Considering that the Slayers LN turns 25 this year, I think it's only fair to have a new Slayers volume or 25th anniversary edition. With this, I don't know how much the sales of that would be.

Congrats to all those Naruto novels making the rankings! I bought every single one! They are a very good read if you're a fan. Even the Last Movie novels has tons of extra content and stuff that wasn't in the movie (actual scenes with Tenten speaking! And Kurenai and her spoiler[baby!])

I'm not sure who told you that.
213,382 shinyaku toaru majutsu no index 4

Anything above 100k is considered exceptional.
