Wow, now it's time to get The first 2 Shenmue games remastered and re-released so that those can relive the memories. And of course the music was always a plus with this series. Now if Inafune had tried to do a KS for MML3 with the approval of Capcom maybe it would have happened. Very pleased at this news.

It's clearly not enough money to make the whole game, so I assume that this is another case where additional backers have agreed to put up money if the Kickstarter could raise the goal.

I really hope these guys can strike some sort of deal with Sega for porting/remaking the first and second games of this series for the PC/PS4. It would be really great to have all three games on a single platform.

"SEGA has officially given us the rights to use the "Shenmue" license." They have the rights for the whole "Shenmue" franchise based on this wording. So it SHOULD be possible...but that's more time. They're a very small group of people involved in this. |

If you read the FAQ at the bottom of the Kickstarter page, they address this. They can make new games, but the two existing games are still squarely in SEGA's court. There's also apparently a lot of legal snafu regarding the engine and some of the tech used in the original games, made even more complicated by the fact that the license-holder to said tech has long been out of business. Assuming that can't be worked out, a remake from the ground up would be their only option, but if they're going to spend time and money making a Shenmue game from scratch, then Shenmue 3 obviously takes priority. |

This has to be one of the quickest turn around times for meeting a Kickstarter goal. With that much, hopefully the staff will get paid a decent amount. The waiting period for such a project to be released is something that you think could be speed up with such a project earning more than its initial goal. Even if had got $20 million, its release date still might not get sped up

I did not get to play the original two Shenmues but I heard lots of praise for it, so I am glad that it is going forward for completing the trilogy. And the fans are committed since the goal has been met, and hopefully there is going to be good things coming out for the game.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if Sony gave them a wad of cash to appear in their conference. |

Yep. Given that the game will not be on XBone, and given that it was announced at Sony's press conference, Sony will almost certainly have promised money to fund it. That is, providing the kickstarter is successful. Which it was. Simply an awesome outcome. I hope the first two games are released as well, since many people will not have played these wonderful games before. Anyway, I'll be putting up money. May go for the $160 version, although having a physical artbook sounds tempting. |

Heheh, $100K per subtitle language.............
Folks, maybe there's another way to play Shenmue II, assuming you still have the game disc. 1.) Shenmue II was released not only on the Dreamcast but also for the original Xbox, and the X360 is backwards compatible to it. 2.) Microsoft just announced on E3 that XB1 will be backwards compatible to X360 natively and for free (as opposed to Sony's PS Now service where players who already own a PS3 game must still pay to access it on PS4 and thru the cloud service rather than working locally, so have to be online all the time). All the publisher needs to do is give permission to make a game available - no extra re-coding work required on their side. So what do ya guys think? Do ya think the technological hurdle will work? Shall we bug Sega to give permission? (We're already thinking of bugging Bandai Namco for Tales of Vesperia.) |

They announced compatibility for 360 games. Just 360 games. Not original Xbox games. |

And if the sales of the original titles are any indication many of them still won't play it. |

Hopefully this publicity will boost up sales of the game. Plus it's being offered as a digital download, unless you get the $60 pledge or better (and then only for PC), so that should lower overheads. I am concerned though that the kickstarter has almost stalled. It might meet its stretch goal of $4,000,000 but I doubt it will beat Bloodstained. |

To be fair, both games actually sold pretty well. The problem was that the budgets were so high that they would've needed to sell far more copies of each game than there were people who owned Dreamcasts just to break even, which was simply an impossible goal. |
