I'll take him or Dai Sato; Oshii's atmospheric, philosophical meditations and Sato's social and political angle were so very different from one another and yet kept the soul of GitS. Definitely a far cry from Ubakata's ramblings.

Kamiyama and Tow Ubukata did more with the franchise than Oshii. Oshii should do another ANIMATED Patlabor movie.

Mamoru Oshii directing a new Ghost in the Shell?

OH YES PLEASE.

AND NO CG.
I want raw, clean, preferably hand-drawn animation like the 1995 film. Mmm~

By hand drawn you just mean like how most anime is still made by artists drawing on paper before having it scanned in for digital coloring and finishing, right? And not some ludicrous demand like hand painted cels? No CG is unlikely since Oshii even had to do that for Sky Crawlers. It's pretty much a guarantee.

Kise, who directed both the Arise OAV series and the new film, was honored, claiming that he was rarely praised.

...Can't imagine why... Laughing

Always thought Kise was a cool cat, even if he always did whatever he wanted to do. I'd support whatever new GitS project came along as long as Kise is a part of it.

Hmm...forgive my lack of knowledge in the ways of the animation, but as long as its as...beautiful...as the animation in the original 1995 GitS film.

Well, I'm just exaggerating I'm really fine as long as everything is top notch quality, CG or no, hand drawn or not Smile

Btw I've been curious about your display picture; where is it from?

It's funny how most of the older directors who started out back when cels were used, are the ones who like CG the most; Mamoru Oshii, Katsuhiro Otomo, Shinji Aramaki.

And yes if Oshii makes another one it probibly be filled with CG like Innocence was.

Unpopular opinion here: I personally loved Innocence alongside the original GITS film so I would actually love to have him back on the director's chair for another one.

I'd like for him to come back to the franchise. I watched Innocence about a week ago (and finished SAC S1 yesterday) and I kinda liked it, even though I didn't quite understand it.
Yes, there was quite some CG, but I personally didn't feel like they went overboard with it nor did it look that bad (looked better than current CG animes, like Expelled from Paradise).

Innocence was terrible. Motoko is the reason this franchise works. Take that out, all you've got is sub-par leftovers. It's probably why we haven't gotten a real adaption of the manga yet aswell.

I see. Actually I used to love CG back when they started using them, but then after a while it feels...unnatural imo. But I'm fine as long as its great quality Smile

I'd prefer Kamiyama, Kise is a great anime director(which worked on the 1995 movie as a key animator)but he must be paired with the right scriptwriter *cough Dai Sato *cough

For the music a synthwave artist like Perturbator

I think Oshii stated his regret in having to use CG for Sky Crawlers, but it's basically unavoidable. You either just don't have the kind of talent around who can do highly detailed mechanical work in 2D anymore, or you don't have the budget. Getting work like the Area 88 OVA isn't cheap.

CG can be great. I love the blend of CG and traditional animation in Innocence. It had a real style! It's all in how you use it!

Would love another theaterical Oshii GITS!
