I hope the more serious part of the otaku community will just let Ms. Kuribayashi-san enjoy her private life in peace.

Can somebody explain why it's so bad for someone in the anime industry to have a kid?

Wow, I saw the blog post, but with it being hand-written, I had no idea what it was about.
It's a very brave move on Minami-san's behalf. She's been the *only* singer to appear at every year of Animelo Summer Live so far and she wrote the music for the 2009 theme song RE:BRIDGE〜Return to oneself〜 and co-wrote the Anisama Super Gamesong Live 2012 theme song New Game. I hope that she can continue to compose and perform whilst being a good mother. PS, Lia (Angel Beats, Air OP's) has two children and she has two new songs this year. Yoko Ishida has also continued to write and sing anime music since having a child. PPS, Minami-san doesn't blog or tweet very much, but there were a lot of overwhelmingly positive responses to the tweet announcing the blog post: https://twitter.com/minami_kuri/status/618118468949282816 Last edited by omiya on Mon Jul 06, 2015 10:48 pm; edited 1 time in total |

While for most people anime is just a hobby there exist a small fraction of fans who can only be categorized as fanatic. They stalk voice actors like the paparazzi do celebrities. I think they project the characters they like into the voice actors and begin seeing them as more that character than human. If a VA does something to 'defile' said character the nutcase snaps. In this case daring to have sex and having a child with someone other than their anime romantic interest or the otaku could be a 'trigger' for the crazier ones. |

Social expectations gone rampant, it goes back to the social idea that once a mother has a kid they have to be a stay at home mom until said child is at least a teenager, this turns around into other social concepts that a performer such as an Idol or Seiyuu that is selling the image of "being young forever" shouldn't have a steady relationship or kids because it is "hard on marketing". |

Thats about the short of it. And unfortunately these fanatic fans bring in a LOT of money for their favorite celebrities. If the celebrity announces that they actually have a personal life, whether it be dating, marriage or children, these fans will rage and then abandon the celebrity, often causing the person to lose their job or take a major blow to their public image. While this of course does not happen to every woman celebrity, it happens enough that many normal fans tend to worry about their future. |

Just what the hell.
I don't see how people didn't figure out she had a son either, it's not really something you can just hide. I don't see how this is that big a deal either, obviously I have no idea but I doubt the people who actually care for this are the only fans she has. |

Jeeze...the way this is worded made me think she had the kid out of wedlock.
I hope she DOESN'T have to start from Zero. That would be stupid on the record labels part.. She's a legend. |

i haven't or never heard anything bad about marriage or having a baby for people in the anime industry. All i see is congratulations all the time. Only bad thing that i heard was actresses sleep with many guys losing their jobs/not getting any new job. |

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind too. I recently rewatched The Devil is a Part-Timer, and since she sang the OP, I started wondering about her. Her last single release was almost a year ago, though it seems she has had several live performances keeping her busy. Her record label is Lantis. I don't think she'll have much of a backlash (other than probably not informing the management beforehand? or at least i hope so). Not that free to go digging for info right now. Anyway, I wish her all the best and hopefully she'll continue to compose and perform her songs. |

This industry is messed up. |

The problem is not having a kid, it's the consequences of all the other things we now have as questions but not answers
How old is he Who is the dad Is she married (most probably not) Is she even taking caring of him etc. If those things start involving other people in the industry in some way it has the potential to look really bad for everyone involved. She wasn't really marketed that way (the fact it was able to be kept secret says a lot actually) and is long past the age it would normally matter so it actually really worries me. Given the lack of information there's a lot of scenarios there too, it could even be something like not telling the label because you don't want to slow down your work and hurt your career. It's just a huge can of worms right now. |
