I used to ride that exact train quite a lot when I lived at Tokorozawa. It was one of the oldest models still in service though, so I can see why they'd have to replace it.

But I don't see why Seibu wouldn't paint the train that replaced it a similar way... Everyone enjoyed it. I gues the newer models aren't really designed for that kind of full-body paint job? Too slick and stylized unlike the boxy-ness of the old train.

Ohh, now, y'see, I read the headline and thought they were going to reproduce the actual Orient-Express look of the original Train. Sad

If they want to really make it an authentic experience, it needs to be a real SL excursion train pulled by a JNR Class C62 steam locomotive, something like what's shown here:



Remember, the "locomotive" for the spacecraft shown in the Galaxy Express 999 series is essentially shaped exactly like a C62 locomotive. The excursion train I suggested will run out of the Kyoto area, where the only fully functional C62 (C62 2) is located at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum.
