Interesting news. Hope the films won't be too pricy but that's a good pickup.

Not gonna lie, I'm a little disappointed that it's going to take that long for the Psycho-Pass movie to come stateside but hey it's better than nothing.

Thank god Funimation got the licenses. I was afraid Aniplex or Sentai might pick them up. Aniplex does great dubs, but their prices are horrendous, and Sentai does 50/50 dubs. Funimation does great dubs at.. mostly affordable prices.

Hmmm Funi probably isn't going to put the Itoh films in theaters since a staggered release would have diminished returns and a 6 hour marathon could be torture.

Those are some big announcements. And I've already waited this long for the Psycho-Pass movie, what's another 6 months to a year?

What are they even about? I've never heard of Project Itoh and the movies wont be out for at least another 4 months.

Nice. I was worried that Aniplex would get them (are they producing them? I haven't heard any info about that but egoist is doing the theme songs so it sounded likely) but this is good. I really wanna check them out, especially Genocidal Organ.

Itoh was an extremely popular and critically acclaimed science fiction author in Japan. Genocidal Organ was nominated for the Nihon SF Taishou award (roughly equivalent to the Nebula in Western SF) and was named the best SF novel of the decade in a readers poll; Harmony won both the SF Taishou and the Seiun Award (the Japanese version of the Hugo), and the Philip K. Dick Award when it was published in the US, and a magazine poll named it the best Japanese SF novel of all time. The Empire of Corpses was the novel he was working on when he died, and it was completed by Akutagawa Award-winning author Toh EnJoe; it won the Seiun and received a special citation from the SF Taishou.

As for plots, GO is a near future thriller that gives Itoh's take on the War on Terror. Harmony is a dystopian novel that satirizes the medical system by depicting a future where HMOs have replaced governments and unhealthy vices are all illegal. Note that Itoh wrote it while in the hospital with terminal cancer, so it's one of the bleakest SF novels ever written. Unfortunately The Empire of Corpses isn't available in English, so I have no idea what the plot entials.

I'm so glad that Funi picked up the Project Itoh films. I've been so psyched for these movies since I heard about them, and now that I know we'll be getting them next year I'm even more excited. Great pickup on their part.

NICE! I didn't really care who got them, but I was really really hoping someone would grab the Project Itoh films. I have a group of guys that would all love to see these in theaters. I sort of doubt they will get that kind of release, but hey, it sure would be nice! Very Happy

Yup, this is great!

Ashame the wait's going to be till next year for the Psycho-Pass movie but I'm still really looking forward to it.

Good to hear they already are setting up plans for those other two movies too.

As much as I dislike the prices Aniplex have, having a collector's edition for these 3 Itoh films would of been really good.

^well.... to be honest, Aniplex doesn't really do Collector's Editions anymore. Pretty much all of their releases are the same little paper slip case with some postcards. I'm not really a Funi person, but with the upcoming Tokyo Ghoul, Black Lagoon, and Fullmetal Alchemist Collector's Editions, as well as their normal Limited Edition releases, I would much prefer something from them. And if they don't give it a LE or CE, at the very least, it's going to be about $30 cheaper than the same thing from Aniplex.
