One of my favorite series from the Summer season. I just love the way the storytelling and characterization is handled so far. Not to mention, I think the show depicts its world fiction fantastically with the art style.

Classic shoujo adaptation imo.

I also find Shirayuki to be an interesting character who is intelligent and self independent.

When I heard about the buzz from this anime, I quickly catch up with the translation and was a bit worried as rarely can I appreciate an anime adaptation of a manga, too often did they just follow page by page the manga without the animation shining (that was my problem with Akatsuki and many other shojo adaptations). What a surprise Akagami was! Sure it follows the manga also almost page to page, but the execution and pacing are top notch. It is dynamic and fluid, it does not overflow with flowers and still shots you can feel were double pages in the manga.

I'll surely watch the rest of the episodes, if only for that. But even without spoiling, Shirayuki indeed is a heroine worth following.

Coming into this season Snow White with the Red Hair was my most anticipated anime, and so far, it has mostly lived up to my expectations. Other than the pretty visuals, I have not been really wowed, but I have faith that this show is capable of doing so.

I am liking the character of Shirayuki a lot because of her personality, strength and independence. I hope she continues to be this way throughout the anime's run.

It's Raji, not Raj. Who's translating this?

I love the manga, but I'm not very fond of the animation. Hopefully it gets better.

"who spends the denouement of her tale mostly dead in a glass or crystal coffin until a prince decides she's pretty enough to take home with him."

Well, in *some* versions of the tale, this particular event plays out in a WIDELY different way... Confused As to what exactly occurs, I'll just leave that to one's own imagination but let's just say it's pretty ghastly.

Anyhoo, I haven't seen the first episode yet but its setting and characters certainly make this seem like something I'd enjoy so I'll be sure to check it out.

Actually, it's ラジ, not Raj or Raji.

(sorry. being purposely obnoxious here, but even I think I sound annoying...) My point is, it's a fantasy-world name "translated" into Japanese by katakana, and now retranslated into our alphabet. Both Raji and Raj are valid ways of conveying the Japanese name to English (or fantasy-esque language) but Funimation's is the first official English translation of the series to exist, and they've put forth Raj as the official English spelling. While I persist in disagreeing with their choice of vowels for certain names in Yona of the Dawn, I have no complaint with the spellings chosen for this series. (I just have to get used to reading them in something other than kanji and kana...)

Got to admit I'm not much of a fan of shoujo anime/manga so i wasn't expecting much when I came into this, but it had me hooked on episode 1

While I'd normally side with the stance you're taking, this one time I have to side with the "Raji" faction. Despite the fact this is a pseudo-European fantasy setting, all the characters have clearly Japanese-esqe names, and I found it odd that Funimation chose a more Westernized romanization just for Raji and no one else. After all, they didn't chose to call Raji's servant "Sakak" or Zen's servants "Kik and Mitshid" or something. (Much less calling our heroine "Snow White" - it was my biggest fear that that might happen with the official subs.)

TL;DR - Since all the characters have Japanese-esqe names, I think they should be romanized as such. Or failing that, at least be romanized in a consistent style.

This show is pleasant but I realized with this episode there is something missing (at least so far) internal conflict.

Sure there is conflict in the sense that Shirayuki keeps getting her freedom almost snatched away but I'd rather see more struggle beyond her getting captured (and then rescued). I would like her and the prince for that matter to have to make some hard decisions or learn some hard truths or just struggle in some way. Because yes Shirayuki & Zen are likable characters but I haven't felt any reason to root for them because there is nothing to root for. Even their relationship lacks spice.

I don't know maybe this herbalist test will offer the conflict I need.

I could just never get into the manga, having tried a few times, but seeing gifs of the anime makes me smile, so I want to give it a shot. Even if I don't have my heart captured by it, I'll enjoy seeing everyone else enjoy it and all the fanworks that come of it. ^u^

But they're not consistently named even in Japanese: Shirayuki and Kiki are in kanji, but Zen and Raj(i) (and the very Japanese-sounding Mitsuhide, heh) are in katakana. Family names and places (along with several yet-to-be-introduced characters) are decidedly not-Japanese sounding (Kurarinesu Kingdom would look silly, wouldn't it?). I agree that it's a weird mix, but it seems like the author herself didn't have a consistent approach in mind, or I'm missing something (I don't know why but it bothers me less than Dawn of the Arcana's Loki and Caesar and Nakaba and Louise and whatever-odd-else because it's at least limited to Japanese-y and madeup-fantasy-y). Maybe the world is a far-future setting where nationalities and languages have mingled or something...?

Oh, I know they aren't all spelled Japanese-y, but they all sound Japanese-y. (I always thought it was an interesting style choice.) And yes, that's limited to given names only, as surnames and country names are clearly Western-styled.

In the end, not the most important thing ever. Maybe keeping the Japanese style for given names is just a matter of personal preference in the end.

And now you have put me in the very strange position of imagining that perhaps this was actually a sci-fi series all along. Confused
