Kinda sad that Durarara is kinda low on the list now, since it has definitely got better, but oh well, different people, different opinions. I guess it could be a lot worse it's ranking is far from awful. I AM happy that Rokka is doing so well over here, that show deserves to be popular, so good. Same with Charlotte and Shirayuki

As for School-Live, I wish I could love it as much as everyone else does but there's just something about it that puts me off, idk what. It's kinda a shame

Symphogear went from 20th place to 7th, quite impressive, then again, this season has been quite good and the last episode was exceptionally over the top delivering most of the things the fans could want

Everything feels somehow low key to me this season, but that's kind of normal for summer. The only shows I've really been following are Shirayuki-Hime, Gangsta and Ushio to Tora. Overall there's really just little that truly excites though. That is to say pretty much nothing stands out and says "Boy I need to be watching this week to week or as often as my free time allows"

It makes me ponder a bit. Did people think it was gonna go back to Season 1 standards of quality and got disappointed, did people like Shou's plot-heavy last 2/3rds and were disappointed at the way more laid back start of Ten, or what? Can't really think of many reasons why someone who has watched Shou and had expectations for Ten would not like how it's going so far.

I'm sad God Eater isn't up there. And the show had time-delay handicaps where the show didn't air earlier and then the 4th episode was postponed for an extra which is 3.5. Finally, there's the different art style and the AoT comparison bias. Very disheartening for me.

Hm, pretty glad I've been avoiding most online anime-related communities in the past few months (most have become far too toxic for my taste, filled with intolerant immature people that line-up in factions and relinquish any type of individual taste and appreciation) because I seem to have a fairly different opinion.

The show I'm enjoying most (not considering sequels) is Himouto, the lowest ranked show. I actually thought it had gotten a decent reception among the community (its MAL rating is pretty good for a SOL light-hearted show) but I guess I was wrong. Honestly, that series is the one I most look forward to tune into week after week out of the non-sequel new shows. Not because it's exciting, but very much the opposite - it's a perfect bland of cuteness, comedy, light-heartedness and chillness. The episodes just put a smile on my face from start to finish and that's actually very pleasant on a weekly basis. It's just indescribably pleasant to relax to it after a stressing day. But I guess most people don't really appreciate that kind of show, I understand.
I also expected a slightly higher ranking for NNB but I guess it's partially the same kind of situation as with Himouto - a lot of people don't enjoy that type of show. Same with Working, perhaps.
I enjoy Gakkou Gurashi (not as much as most people seem to, according to this ranking, but I still like it) but can't say I find Rokka all that incredible. I don't mean to offend the fans, and I do find it watchable, but besides good art and a couple cool-looking fights it really hasn't done much for me.
I thought Gangsta would top this list. The few people I get to talk to online about the season are all really loving it and it has the best MAL rating of all the new non-sequel series. I don't find it as spectacular as that, but it is a pretty fun show.

It's a fun season for me. Quite a few entertaining shows.

Keep in mind that ANN posters are not representative of anime viewers as a whole (IMO anyway). Thanks for mentioning Himouto -- that one hadn't gotten my attention, but I love NNB and if Himouto is in a similar vein, it'll be worth checking out.

It focuses a bit more on comedy and I still think NNB is better, but Himouto is great light-hearted SOL fun as well. It feels off to say that they are similar series, since NNB's setting (which is a big part of what makes it good) is very different, but their relaxing and light-hearted effect on me is somewhat similar. I advise you to check Himouto's first episode and make your own conclusions - the first ep. is an excellent example of the series' appeal so it's somewhat easy to tell if you'll enjoy it or not from it.
About ANN's posters not being representative, I think no single community truly is, but it's a big enough website to still show some trends and tendencies.

Why?

----

Interesting that DBS is no longer in the list. But in fact it is understandable as the first 4 ep were boring as hell and then came that horrible fight...

I started School Live the same day I saw the first poll from charapedia, and it has delivered so far. It's amazing how a cutesy anime can be that deep. Rokka and Shimoneta are my favorite so far, and I'm happy that both of them make it to the list. It's still a shame that Shimoneta didn't get the weekly reviews, but I hope that there's a overall review after the season is finished.

I also love Classroom Crisis, it is somewhere between my favorites of the season, but I didn't feel surprised about how low it is in this list. After all, people in the ann forums really give harsh opinions about the show.

The online anime community has been like that for a while but this year I'd swear the toxic cynical shitposting element is louder than ever and I kind of just can't do it anymore. I can't say on average I enjoy engaging with your average internet denizen much anymore unless they can demonstrate they are a rational breed that won't overkill it on the histrionics. I'm mostly just glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I went through a bit of a phase where I wasn't even enjoying anime but ever since I kind of gave up on the rest of the fanbase and stuck to my own tastes and interests its been fun again. I mean really what's the point of trying to engage someone about something I like for them to probably just not bother having a real conversation and telling me why my taste is apparently objective shit and all those stock one liner insults that get thrown around these days in lieu of real discussion and community. Shame but its for the best to stay out of it as much as possible or anime will never be fun for me.

Glad to see Rokka up there. Interesting that peeps in the USA are liking it more than in Japan (at least, with ANN readers). Rokka and Snow White are definitely the two I look forward to watching each week.

It seems that many folks of ANN were thrilled with how surprisingly dark School-Live turned out after the first episode.

My honorable mention to Symphogear GX for jumping to the No. 7 slot. I think it must have been those medieval-themed villains that got some people interested in the show.
